My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It's hard to believe that 15 months ago this awesome boy was about to be euthanized in a York County shelter simply because he was unclaimed stray. Since his time here at the farm he has blossomed into a great, easy-going companion. One of our volunteers has taken a great interest in working one-on-one with Sarge to continue socializing him for family life. He's taken Sarge on a couple of fieldtrips into town where he discovered Sarge likes classic cars, choppers and Puggies (see his videos on our Facebook page). Sarge, climbs/descends stairs, rides well in the car and is getting better at heeling on a leash (he still pulls a bit - probably from all of the excitement of being on a fieldtrip). Sarge is only 2-3 yrs old, so he does still have some of that teenaged excitement - wanting your full attention - so we are working with him to curb his mouthiness. He is crazy about toys and loves to play - especially with his stuffed monkey. He would do well with an active owner or a family with other dogs and kids. While he hasn't spent any extended time with cats, we have observed that he is indifferent when he is being walked past our cat enclosure here on the property.) And he's such a handsome boy (he loves to be brushed) it was hard to pick only a couple of pictures to post.

Sarge is currently being treated for heartworms using a slow-kill treatment. He will need a family willing to commit to continuing his treatment. We will gladly discuss options for future treatment with potential adopters. Please don't let his current HW+ status dissuade you from considering this otherwise awesome dog. If you decide to come to the farm to meet him in person, he'll be easy to SPOT!
