Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Murphy
The Crossings Animal Society has recently brought in a beautiful Boxer, Murphy. Murphy is 1 ½ years old, was bought as a 10 week old puppy from a “puppy farm” and lived with one family. Murphy, being the typical Boxer, needed proper training; his family, not having the tools or resources to work with him started to see a change in his behavior. Therefore, having a large family, small children and numerous people in and out of the home on a daily basis, they were not equipped to handle a dog like Murphy; The Crossings Animal Society stepped in.
Murphy has been with us a little over a month now and has blossomed into a playful boy. He is very intelligent, learns fast and we’ve learned how quickly he attaches himself to people. He will definitely be the loyal companion you hear about!
Murphy loves to play with other dogs and is also very polite and respectful of them. At his veterinary appointment, Murphy was the only dog in the waiting room who sat there quietly waiting to be called. No amount of barking, barking at him or commotion got him upset. He simply lay there, attentive to his surroundings but again, respectful of others – humans and other dogs and cats. (Murphy does have a heart murmur. We learned this when we took him to the vet for a vaccination. We then made an appointment at VSEC and their cardiologist, Dr. Bossbaly did a thorough check on him. At Murphy’s age she believes he was born with Congenital Heart Disease, however, she indicated he will live a long and happy life. Murphy will not require any medicine, just a yearly checkup. We were happy to hear that this young boy will live to be an old guy )
Murphy will do best in an adult home with someone who is experienced with the breed. He will need a committed and loving owner who can be the strong pack leader that Murphy needs. He will need to learn what appropriate behavior is and what we will not accept. Right now, we are working on learning that the aggressive reactions he has displayed in the past are unacceptable and those modifications will need to continue with positive reinforcements.
Murphy’s adoption will be a slower process than a standard adoption. We would like to see a connection made with him over a short amount of time. Murphy does not trust immediately and we understand this considering the background; however, once Murphy trusts you, you have his heart. There is so much potential in this boy, but again, we are working with him and his new family will need to continue this work. His transformation will not be overnight; if you have the time to give this boy the love he deserves, the patience he probably was never given and the commitment to teach him right from wrong on a consistent basis then Murphy will be the loyal and loving dog you’ve always wanted.
Thank you. If you are interested in our boy Murphy, please call 215.321.4673 or email Lisa at lisa@crossingsanimalsociety.org
