My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Grayson is currently living in Houston, Texas with his foster family and is available for out-of-state adoption with an amazing family.*

Grayson is about 10 months old and as with many of our great rescues, his mix of breeds is a bit unknown. We feel that he is a Labrador mix, but his fur is a little on the longer side, so there could be a little Boarder Collile in there as well. He is currently about 30 pounds and we expect him to be around 45-50 pounds as an adult. He is in the lanky teenage stage of his growth right now, so he will likely put on more muscle as he continues to grow!

Grayson came to us from a high kill shelter with a terrible case of non-contagious mange and a secondary skin infection. He was so naked when he first came to us, that his nickname was "Mr. Naked Puppy Bottom". We had no idea of his breed or age at that point, just that he needed us! He had been found as a stray and was in so much pain from his skin, that we couldn't even pet him the first week he was with us. But, after amazing vet care, a protocol of medication and a grain-free/high protein diet, the most handsome, and loving, little man emerged from under the mange! His fur is still a little thin on his back legs (as you can see in the photos) but it is growing back and will fill in well now that he is 100% healthy. We would suggest that he stay on Bravecto, an oral flea medication, that is given every three months, as this prevention is great for dogs who have had his skin condition. It is available at the vet or online without a prescription. Now, the last step in his amazing transformation is to find an amazing family to live out his life with.

Grayson LOVES everything. Literally everything. He is the happiest, sweetest, most affectionate dog we could dream of coming from the situation he did. He is very playful with other dogs and gets along great with dogs of all sizes. He is being fostered with 8 week old puppies up to a 90 pound American Bulldog, and he loves them all. He can be a little too friendly upon first meeting dogs, he has no concept of personal dog space, but he is very easily corrected and really just loves to play with all dogs. He would be a great running/hiking buddy and would also be a great dog park dog. Grayson would do great as an addition to a family with other dogs or as a bachelor.

He is still a puppy, so he will need a family that understands he still needs some training and patience. He is crate trained, needs lots more practice on his leash and is still having (rarely) but the occasional accident inside the house. He stays in his kennel overnight with a fluffy doggy bed, but during the day, runs outside with his foster siblings and hangs out with his foster mom who works from home. Grayson is not chewer, but does love a good bone. We would suggest that he stay kenneled when being left alone, at least at first, until he gets familiar with his family's new routine and scheduled. All of the work put into the his new life by his new family will benefit him lifelong.

Grayson is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and doing very well in his foster home. So, it's time for him to land his perfect forever family! If our handsome man sounds like a perfect match for your family, please fill out the application by visiting our website, www.reggiesfriends.org, under the Adoptables tab or email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org for more information. His adoption fee is $300.
