My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DUKE is a 7 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 75 pounds. Duke was an owner surrender because his owner could no longer afford him. This poor fellow was kept in a 4x4 kennel all his life. The people that took him from the owner said Duke's teeth are worn down from chewing on the pen fencing. He hasn't had much interaction in his life which is heartbreaking because he is such a gentle, loving dog. Duke is good with other dogs and with kids. Duke met three 7-year old children in the local rescue's lobby and was perfect with them. He is said to be good with cats, too. Duke LOVES treats!! Duke is looking for a family with lots of love to give him. He will return the love tenfold!!! From the transporter: What a sweet, gentle dog! He was great right from the start! Lots of kisses and tail wagging. While he doesn't seem to know any commands yet, he responds well to his name. He only pulled a little on the leash as we walked around for him to go to the bathroom but you know how that nose works! From the vet: A really nice dog!! He is approved for kids 10+.

Update (1/15): Sweet doesn't even begin to describe this big boy. He is underweight and lopes around with his big paws and giant head. When you stop walking...he's right behind you. If your hands are at your side he will give you a big lick to let you know he is right behind you...in case you didn't notice him. Duke loves to be loved on - he will shamelessly roll over and let you get his belly. While you do that, he will mouth your hand very gently...you will be able to see how his upper and lower little front teeth have been worn down. At night I help him get on the bed to sleep, but he would be happy to snuggle on a dog bed. My favorite thing about Duke, besides the fact that he is heart meltingly adorable, is to watch him run in the yard. He hops around when he gets excited. He pops up on his front legs and sort of bounces. Duke would be happy to live with or without dogs. He gets along with everyone and sends out a really easy going vibe.
