Meet Obie, a ten-month old male, Beagle/Sheltie mix. His beautiful, brown face sports beige eyebrows, chin, and neck ruff, giving him a happy expression. He has a sturdy and proportionate body covered in thick, short brown and beige fur. This is a smart but shy little guy with a loving personality. He is still a puppy so he will need to learn all the good stuff that make a perfect dog. He loves people – young and old, and gets along well with dogs but he has never met a cat.
Although he is very active, Obie can also be laidback depending on his mood. He is happy no matter what’s happening around him. He is not a dominant dog and he is happy to follow the others. He enjoys a good run with his siblings and plays for hours. Although he currently lives in kennels, this young man likes to be comfy and to snuggle. Obie is looking for warm human companionship, daily exercise, and firm, consistent, and patient training. He was housebroken but has been living in kennels for a long while so he will need to be reminded about manners. This boy would be good in both an urban or rural setting, preferably in a house with a yard, and he will need to be exercised. Obie would be happy with any kind of family – a single person, an active family, or an older couple wanting a companion.
Obie is neutered and up to date on shots. He is healthy and sturdy. His adoption fee is $150.

Anyone wanting to adopt a dog from the RARFS is required to fill out an adoption application, provide references, sign an adoption contract, agree to a home visit, and finally to pay an adoption fee. Once the application is received, references checked, and a home visit completed, and everything is satisfactory, families can take their new family member home. Families who rent must provide a letter from their landlord stating that they are allowed to have a dog, and listing any size or breed restriction.
We are located in Cookeville, Tennessee. We prefer that families come and pick up their new family member, but a licensed pet transport is available. Should we need to transport dogs to their new homes, the adopter will need to arrange and pay $150 per dog directly to the transport company.
Should a dog adopted from RARFS need to be rehomed, we ask that the dog be returned to us, or that we approve the new home. We have a no questions asked return policy, but adoption and transport fees will not be reimbursed.
As a non-profit organization, RARFS relies on your adoption fees to cover costs. We receive no outside funding. Fees help us care for the animals we shelter, and enable us to offer them to you for adoption in a healthy and happy state. Fees cover the costs for spaying/neutering, intake vaccines, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention, and any other medical expenses. Without these fees we could not continue to rescue animals from abandonment and/or a life of pain and suffering. We’ve been asked these questions before, so: NO, we will not waive or reduce adoption fees; YES, you can further pay it forward by making a larger donation than the requested fee.
RARFS rescues dogs, not breeds, and we want you to fall in love with the dog you adopt into your family so, as potential adopters, please be aware that the information we provide is to the best of our knowledge. When it comes to breed or age information on a given dog, we must often guess, rely on our knowledge, or go by what we are told by rescuers, vets, and breed experts.
