My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption fee applies – if serious about adoption please email caarescue@gmail.com
My name is Hazel and I was surrendered to the Montreal SPCA because I was too vocal and the neighbors were complaining. While the people at the SPCA were very kind to me I was very scared and so my options for adoption there were limited. Other doggies were happy bum wagging at new people who came into the adoption room while I just sulked and hid at the back of my cage. So no one really saw that I was even there (you can see my oh so sad and pathetic pictures during my stay at the SPCA in my profile!!)
Finally one very nice lady reached out to rescues to help me; one group did respond yes immediately and the volunteers at CAA Rescue were a little sad because they had hoped to take me into their family but they just were not quick enough… I guess what is meant to be just is…
Because a week later that other rescue had to change their mind about taking me in and so the email went out again and THIS TIME CAA Rescue made no hesitation and confirmed that I could join them in foster care. I was picked up by my foster daddy in a few short hours and boy-o-boy did my life ever change from that point on!
Now I am out of the city with no immediate neighbors and could bark my head off all day long but strangely enough the first week in foster care I did not make a peep…. Not to come in, not to go out and not when left alone. Maybe all this fresh air and exercise I am getting with my foster daddy was the difference in my life that I needed!
I do live with other dogs in foster care and am doggie friendly
I am house trained but do need more help with walking on the leash like a proper canine citizen
I am approximately 55-60lbs so considered a medium to large size.
Besides the leash training I would really benefit from someone who has doggie experience, I can resource guard my items from the other dogs sometimes. My foster dad is helping me with this but I will need ongoing help and training to quell this out of me. I am still so very young and have so much to learn
For this reason of resource guarding I will not be looking for a home with children under the age of 14 years.
I like people and get excited when I see them and potentially may even jump up to give you a hug and say HIYA but I do respond well to correction and calm down quickly
I think my problem is that I am a smart girl; a super smart girl but no one really took the time to show me the things I need to know to be a good and proper canine citizen. So with no attention and too much time on my hands I became bored and barked and basically did what I wanted and surrrrrrrrrrrrrrre that was fun for a while but for long term … well it is just not a good and happy and productive life.
I am a medium energy girl and if you walk me 1-2 hours a day coupled with training, love and snuggles I know I could be your dreamboat, best friend, always and furrrever doggie!
Even though my foster dad has left me alone for short periods of time and there were no issues it is important to note that I have doggie friends in foster care so I am never truly alone. If my new home does not have a doggie friend for me to pal around with and I will be left alone for extended periods of time then my new potential home might want to invest in a crate for me.
I have not been tested with any cats
Oh & with the whole last barking scenario with that other family I will not be looking for an apartment or condo home in the city. I think ideally I am a suburban house girl who has her very own fenced in back yard and maybe even a pool I can jump into on hot summer days when you are not looking
I am a gorgeous girl and I think I really deserve my own family who will love me for always and show me all the things I need to know to be a good and happy girl!
If you would like to meet Hazel at her foster home in Lachute please write to CAARescue@gmail.com we will ask you to complete an adoption application so that we can learn a little more about you and if you are a perfect fit for Hazel we will make arrangements for you to meet her for potential adoption
