Story:

I found Buddy wandering busy streets in Austin 2yrs ago. He was loaded with fleas, worms, etc... I cleaned him up, took him to the vet, and a week later his owner claimed him. She kept him chained up at her front door, and she admitted to regularly setting Buddy free to go 'visiting'.

I let my name with his micro chip company, assuming this would happen again, and it did. I'm only surprised it took so long. He ended up in a KILL shelter and went unclaimed this time. So I rescued him and cleaned him up again. Now I hope to find him a forever home that will keep a much better eye on him...

Temperament, Energy, & Play:

Buddy is a very sweet and affectionate boy. Cuddling on the couch is a favorite for him. He has lots of energy, but gets hot pretty quickly. So, while he's eager to go all the time, shorter (no more then a mile in the summer), more frequent outings are better for him. He loves car rides and dog parks, and might even make a great agility dog. Buddy loves to roll around on the floor and play, he has a very puppy like personality. But if he gets to really chewing/gnawing on either of these possessions he can get a bit protective, as many street dogs would... This is something that needs to be worked on with positive reinforcement...

He gets very nervous at the vet, and really likes to be comforted/held by someone he already knows and trusts rather then a new person/vet tech.

Cats & Children:

Buddy is great with children, and sees them as play a mate, but since he can get protective of his bone and ball he might be better off in a child free home. He's good with cats as long as they are not scared and running away, in that case he will chase them hoping to play. So if your cats are not afraid things should be fine.

Training & Other Dogs:

Buddy walks well on a leash, but does pull a bit, especially if he sees a squirrel. So, if you're not paying attention he just might throw you off your balance. He knows sit, down, and come and listens when asked (most of the time). That said, he may require a little training if you don't want to be ignored by him when he finds something more interesting then you.

Buddy has a history of wandering, so no 4ft fencing will keep him in, he needs 6ft fencing and more training, if you plan to go on off-leash outings..

He loves to play with other dogs, and does not instigate any fights, but when aggressed upon will stand his ground, then walk away as if it never happened.

Adoption:

Buddy is fully vaccinated, neutered, and is heart worm negative. He does have some food allergies so will need to be on a grain free diet.
Buddy would be best suited for someone who has experience working with strong willed dogs, as he can certainly be put in this category.
