My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Feisty, headstrong, noisy, energetic, temperamental. These are just a few of the commonly used adjectives when one speaks of a typical terrier-breed; Then there’s Bolt, the mellow West Highland White Terrier Westie. Easy-going, quiet, chill, steady and even somewhat aloof would be the right descriptors for this guy. The first few days we had Bolt we actually thought he was deaf, turns out he was just ignoring us! Now that we have been fostering Bolt for a week or so, he is more responsive to us, but just as sweet and mellow as the day we met him.

Bolt is a 7-year-old and 15-pound West Highland White Terrier Westie who was found as a stray. The poor guy had a double ear-infection, some allergies, and was pretty scruffy and dirty when we got him, but we cleaned him up, gave him some Benadryl for his allergies and he now looks like a little show-dog. Bolt looks and moves like your quintessential Westie; He’s square, stocky, and moves around like a little tank. While Bolt is pretty low-key, he still provides plenty of entertainment. Bolt will bark if he gets worked up, and sometimes growls while ‘fighting’ with a toy. He loves pulling all of the toys out of the toy-box and carefully giving each one a chew-test to see which he will claim, then he will throw it in the air to entertain himself. Bolt will play fetch for hours and happily trots back with the toy after each toss. He also loves going for walks, and you don’t have to worry about him yanking the leash from your hand because he doesn’t really walk as much as he strolls. Whether out in the yard, playing fetch, walking or coming for dinner, Bolt lives life at his own pace.

Bolt gets along with all people and pack-members he has met and will initiate play with any takers. When playtime is over, Bolt will be looking for a lap to commandeer, where he will eventually fall asleep while providing his human the softest, thickest coat to pet. If you are looking for a low key dog who is up for anything, even if it’s just a snooze in the sunny yard, or staring at squirrels out of a window, then Bolt may be your quiet companion!
