My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bonjour! Meet Ginger! She is a Euro-bred Dobe who lived her first 4 years in France. She even knows some commands in French! Ginger has an interesting story about how she came to IDR+. Every day, we hear of families moving anywhere from across town to a neighboring state and not making the effort to take their dogs with them, but Ginger’s family moved to Chicago from France and had every intention of living here with her. However, it was a huge culture shock for her, and she did not adjust to the smaller house with no yard and all of the strangers she’d meet out on her walks. After trying to make it work for a few months, Ginger’s family reached out to us for help to find her the right home for her here. Ginger is now in a foster home and trying to make sense of all of this. She is not familiar with the American Doberman custom of being a social Velcro cuddler. She doesn’t understand why all of these strangers expect her to be her best friend within minutes of meeting her. It took some time to warm up to her foster mom and the other dogs in the home, but she is settling in. She has nice conformation, but she’s a little chunky at 85 pounds. She is housebroken and was not crated in her previous home; although, she is crated in her foster home and she does just fine. She can be a little standoffish when she first meets new people and other dogs, but she is fine after slow introductions. Ginger had always lived as an only dog, but her previous owners stated that she was used to playing with dogs ranging from small to large, but that she plays too rough for the little dogs. Ginger lived with children, but her previous owner says that she tends to forget her size, so she will only be placed with children 10 years and older. She is not a fan of cats or other small critters. Ginger will required a fenced-in yard where she can engage in one of her favorite pastimes of chasing those pesky squirrels. She also has a favorite ball and will keep herself amused playing soccer by herself. Ginger loves to go for walks in a quiet neighborhood, but she pulls a little on the lead, so she would appreciate a refresher training course, this time in English. She would probably make a good jogging partner. Ginger is slightly overwhelmed with all the recent changes in her life, but with patience and understanding, she will make a great companion.
