My story

Bailey is about seven and a half years old, weighs 53 pounds, has tested negative for heartworms, is kennel-trained, and has recently received a dental cleaning.  She is very smart and walks well on a leash.  Although she loves people (bringers of belly rubs), she is very choosy with her doggie friends, so a home where she would be the only dog would be ideal for her.  Bailey loves the outdoors, so a fenced-in yard to keep her safe is a must.  She also loves to hike and go for car rides!  She would do best in a home with dog-savvy people who can be her leader, with either no children or older children.  Personality-wise, she is like a cat in a dog body - sweet and chill with people she trusts, but aloof (sometimes ready for attention and sometimes not).  We expect her to bond with her person and become loyal and affectionate.  She is exceptionally content with her own company and doesn't need to be entertained.  Although pulled from the local Animal Control after coming in as a stray, Bailey will make an awesome buddy for someone, so if you think she would be a good addition to your home, please submit an application from our website!

More about this rescue

East Mississippi Animal Rescue started in 2001 and is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of abandoned animals in East Mississippi.

EMAR is a small group of dedicated volunteers trying to make a difference in our community. We are not a shelter with visiting hours; animals are housed at the homes of volunteers, which means we can accept only a limited number of animals at a time.

Each animal is given basic medical care and, if at an appropriate age, is spayed or neutered. The adoption fee charged for puppies or kittens includes a spay or neuter fee so the procedure can be done when the animal is old enough. Adoption fees also help cover routine veterinary costs.
Rescue expenses are funded by donations and adoption fees.
