Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ollie came to Lizzy's from a local shelter that found him roaming the streets. In the shelter he was very frightened and withdrawn, but did begin to calm slowly with the attention they were giving him. However once out of the shelter he has been engaging, responsive and eager to interact with people. It does seem that he was not well-socialized with dogs or people, or was simply shut away from everything.
Ollie has really adjusted well to a busy home with lots of dogs. He is learning to understand canine language while playing with his favorite pals. He meets new dogs, large and small, with interest and good manners. He reacts the same with new people, happy and calm in his interactions with adults and older children. He is now seeking out attention from people in his home and is learning to enjoy snuggles and hugs. Ollie does have house manners so is not inclined to jump on furniture or be destructive, and is content in a crate. He is also potty trained. Ollie loves running in the yard or just walking around the neighborhood. He walks well on a leash, is comfortable in car rides and enjoys the company of his canine pals.
Ollie does know some basic commands but will certainly benefit from additional training and more normal life experiences. He does not like bikes or loud noises and has at times been nervous around some men. He has occasionally shown some protectiveness with his people and may want to referee when the canine play gets too boisterous. But he is also quite tolerant of the puppies around him.
At about 4 years old, Ollie is a wonderful shepherd. He is gentle with other dogs and people, interested in life around him and participates in the household activities. He is smart, responsive and learning every day. We are looking for a home that is willing to continue his training and reinforcing his confidence, and one that has experience with German Shepherds. Small children are probably not the best for him; however he would love to have a canine playmate.
