My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

OH MY WORD….Guess who got his second negative mange scraping and is ready for his forever home???? You got it…our boy Rex. He looks and feels fabulous and the vet gave us the green light. Boy are we happy for this guy. He is such a trooper. He is bouncy and happy and plays more and more with his brother Nike. As you know they are a bonded pair and will be adopted together. We are sure he is happy he no longer feels yucky. His personality is blossoming. His leash manners are coming along and he loves car rides more and more especially now since they are all not to the vet  He has mastered sit and down and has a high willingness to please. He will need to remain on high quality dog food to keep his immune system in synch and a daily dose of fish oil never hurt anyone 

They both love praise and additional training will be relatively easy. They are both food motivated and LOVE salmon. They also love baths, to be brushed and ice cubes. How cute is that!!! Let’s give these boys the happy ever after they deserve!!!

Guess who is responding WONDEFULLY to holistic methods of treatment…..yep…our Dane in need Rex. He is flourishing and has adjusted to his foster home so well. He is not completely out of the woods but he is trying his hardest to show the world what he is made of. He is still undergoing medicated baths, immune boosters etc but hair is growing and he is one HAPPY dog. Along with veterinary supervision, Rex is on several vitamins and minerals to help him as well as very good quality food. It has made a world of difference in his appearance and demeanor. Rex is even sweeter than when he came into rescue. His zeal for life is bright and he is a happy and playful baby. Of course he still loves his ZZZs but is an absolute joy to have around. He is becoming less vocal inside and a tad more outside if left unattended. He tickles his foster to death as he will do one large bark when he goes outside and literally wait to see if there is a response from surrounding furbabies. If no response then he simply handles his “personal business” and gets the zoomies out….comes to the door and waits to be let back in. If he DOES get a response then a conversation will begin but literally calling his name once stops the barking. LITERALLY. He has met a lot of dogs and cats on his numerous trips to the vet and never was one greeted without a wagging tail. He is walking better on a leash. Still have a little to go before introduction of the gentle leader but no pulling so we are making improvements. He is PHENOMINAL in the car. No whining, crying…nothing. He just hops in and lays down. He has also stopped inserting himself in the shower. He WILL lay directly outside the tub and wait but no more peeking in  We are waiting at least another month to make sure Rex is ready for a change and then actively pursue adoption requests for him and his bonded brother Nike. They are wonderful with other animals and will be fine for short times without each other but we feel they should remain together. PS…..he has gained 4 pounds from the initial posting. Looks like hair weighs more than we thought 

Meet Rex. He came into Rescue 12 December 2015 with his bonded brother Nike. He is a sweet 145lb, 2 ½ year old male with natural ears.

Rex is a big goofball. Traditional of most Great Danes, Rex will give kisses all day if you let him. He loves to play and as big as this boy is, loves to carry his stuffed animals around anywhere he goes. He is a total sweetheart and excellent with children, other dogs and cats. He even loves car rides. He is not a vocal dog and doesn’t bark at anything but the mailman (lol), doorbells and knocking. If you do not like Danes in your shower then he is not the Dane for you He will sit right outside the bathtub and even stick his head in to peek around. He is not food aggressive, he does not resource guard, he does not dig in the yard, he is obedient, he doesn’t even beg at the table. OH MY WORD what an angel this boy is. He is house broken, crate trained, knows basic commands and just needs a little help getting over this bad situation to be able to fully enjoy life again. Want to know one of his favorite snacks? Wait for it….ice cubes. Isn’t that the cutest? He walks fairly well on a leash, no excessive pulling and we would love to work with him on a gentle leader but the rubbing on his face would be too much for him to handle right now. When Rex isn’t playing with his furbrothers, he is doing what all danes do…sleeping. He is truly a lover of zzzzzzzzs. He snores. To truly tell you how sweet he is, even as yucky and itchy as his skin is, he longs to be pet and loved on. He is a leaner and if you are ground level, you will be his seat and pillow.

Rex has had a good life…but a painful one. They were surrendered ONLY because of the huge medical bills Rex is incurring. Rex was born with Mange. He was treated and looked like he was in the clear but low and behold it came back with a vengeance. Rex’s immune system has become tolerant of traditional methods to clear up his skin and we are now resorting to alternate and more persistent treatment methods. He still gets his weekly medicated baths but will need so much more to get back to feeling great.

Please help us get this terrific boy healthy and in a forever home he greatly deserves.
