Louie is a SUPER SWEET, playful, joyful puppy. He truly has a lot of love in his heart. We believe Louie is a mix of Chinese Sharpei and Mastiff (but he's not telling us who is parents are, so this is a guess). Louie was at the South LA animal shelter as a stray. The Rescue Train placed him in his foster home on February 20. A trip to the vet confirmed that Louie's age is 5 months old. The vet thinks that Louie will be a BIG boy when full-grown. He weighs 45 pounds now. He could grow to as big as 80 pounds!
We had Louie examined, bathed, and neutered. He got a clean bill of health from the vet and "two paws up" from everyone from the receptionist, to the vet techs, to the groomers. Louie was a CHAMP and sweet to all.
He seems to adore every dog he meets, big or small. He also seems to feel this way about people too. He has been great with everyone, men, women and children. Due to his size, Louie would probably do best in a home without toddlers, although he is very gentle. His foster mom thinks if your kids are over the age of 5 and respectful of animals, he would be a great family dog. He also would really love another dog companion. He likes to hang with his foster home's 3 dogs.
Louie is very good with cats. He is a puppy and he wants (very badly) to play with them. But if you tell him firmly "no" he listens. He loves to watch the cats and smell them. He has been a gentleman around the cats in his foster home. But with any dog, you would want to introduce him slowly to your cats if you have them.
Louie is crate trained and potty trained. He also is a fantastic walker on the leash. He enjoys his walks. He is a bit scared to ride in the car. We think this is because he associates car rides with going to the shelter. His foster parents are working on this and trying to make car rides FUN and exciting.
The perfect home for Louie would have big dog experience, another dog and a big yard. Additionally, they would be active and take him on long walks and hikes. He loves being a member of the family.
