In the spring of 2014, a litter of newborns was found sleeping in a drain pipe. Thanks to a Good Samaritan, the mother and her puppies were saved, one of them being Poncho. If you are looking for a young, energetic, ball crazy, trained, Ridgeback-y looking big boy and have the time to show him structure, boundaries, and work on continuing his socialization, this boy will have you smiling from ear to ear for years to come. We've been working with this handsome purple tongued boy for over four years now. Poncho was terrified of everything he didn't know and he knew nothing except the home in which he was being forced to leave. He was petrified. He was unsure of himself, his surroundings, strangers, other dogs, and he was lashing out. He's come so far, but he still needs a low traffic household and someone who will continue to introduce him to the world around him. Poncho's now obedience trained, so much less fearful, so much more trusting, and so responsive with the people who have worked with him. He needs an adopter who can spend time with him, prior to adoption, as he doesn't trust strangers. We will work with you and Poncho- getting you both to the point where he trusts you and can leave with you. He just needs someone who can spend the time to show him structure, boundaries, and work on continuing his socialization, and this boy will have you smiling from ear to ear for years to come.💙

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.

More about this rescue

Coastal German Shepherd Rescue of Southern California is a non-profit 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned German Shepherds. Your tax deductible donations go to support these very deserving animals. Coastal was formed to serve communities in the counties of San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.

Coastal is dedicated to providing new beginnings for homeless German Shepherds who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, relinquished by their owners or just left at local shelters to await an uncertain future.

We are committed to finding loving permanent homes for the Orphaned dogs in our care. Coastal is an all volunteer, no-kill, non profit organization.

Our mission is to educate the public about German Shepherds, their lifespan, personality, activity level, along with overall responsible dog ownership. We also raise awareness of over population of animals through education, training, spaying and neutering. We work very hard to match each dog with the adoptive families.
