Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jake is a black and white Italian greyhound weighing 14 pounds. He is a tall boy and likes to stretch his head over the table. He was recently fixed and received a dental. Jake is on the skinny side but eats our Nutro, Venison and Brown Rice eagerly; he does not appear to be food aggressive. Jake has never had treats before, from what we can tell, and attempted to eat the entire butter knife with peanut butter on it. He accepts medicine in the form of pills easily.
Jake doesn’t know any obedience commands and will need someone patient to work with him to build on what he learns in foster care. He also has never walked on a leash, but will be learning. Since Jake has been neutered his potty habits have improved greatly, but is currently wearing bellybands in the house incase of any accidents. He will need a family that is patient with the potty skills to work with him (as with most IGs). We are currently training him to use potty pads.
Jake is very soft and sweet. All he wants is to be loved and will come to you to be petted and held. He will literally stay in the position you place him like a doll. He is very loving and likes to give hugs.
Jake has a funny behavior with his hind legs. When he plays with our other Italian greyhounds, he will turn around in a circle, butt first. He will also jump into a chair and ‘butt’ his way into the best position, knocking the other dog out of the way.
Jake is slowly learning what toys are and how to play with the other dogs. He does not appear to have any aggression in this area either. Jake is already fixed and up-to-date on shots. Currently he is being fostered in Omaha, NE.
This little guy and 14 other dogs were part of a rescue effort between the Kearney NE Humane society, the Nebraska IG Rescue, and the State of Nebraska. The Nebraska IG Rescue ended up taking 11 of the 14 Italian Greyhounds, and 3 stayed with the Kearney Humane society. You can read more about at the following website.
