My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cozie is a seal and white Italian Greyhound female. She will be 3 in July of 2008 and is as sweet as can be. She has an appointment to be spayed soon. She does have some potty training issues of course when it is cold out being an IG. She does very well at work where I have a fenced backyard for her to do her business but on leash she is less willing (when it is cold out) and that is what we have to do at home. She also I believe could very easily be litter boxed trained. When she was at the breeders and was in the house for the first year of her life she would jump in the whelping boxes and do her business just like when she was a puppy. So I think someone could easily trainer to a litter box which I think she would love to never have to go out in the cold to potty lol. She is training in agility and doing well so if someone wanted to do that with her they would have a jump start. The one thing about her is she is a nervous nelly as she spent the last 1.5 years with little to no human contact at the breeder. Lots of that time in a kennel. She is kennel trained of course though. She loves to snuggle and give kisses. She gets along well with other dogs small dogs better but will warm up to big dogs over time. Her previous owner got her out of the breeders situation where she was just a kennel dog and I have made progress on her socializing. She does try to be the boss with other dogs but if you remind her your the boss by placing her at the bottom of the pack. As in feeding her last, last to get a treat, make her sit and stay for her food, etc she snaps out of it. When we first got her she had forgotten how to play but has since learned again and loves soft toys. She will obviously go through some adjustment time and learning to trust, but warms up. She learns alot from watching other dogs.

We started letting her go off leash in the (fenced) yard on Sunday. We stay with her at all times to be sure she doesn't find a way out. For the most part, she does come when you call her name then say come. Usually she does her job then comes on a dead run inside. As for the chasing, I have not seen any of that yet. She has started to show some tail wags and even some excitement when she gets food fixed for her. My feeling is that she does better with a female. She acts as tho some one has really mistreated her sometimes.

Her kennel is where she seems to want to be most of the time. I snuggle her every chance I get, hoping she will feel better about being outside the kennel. She has not interacted with our IG's very much. They are curious and want to play but she wants no part of that yet.

Cozie is being fostered in Lincoln, NE. Her littermate and brother also lives in Lincoln, NE.May 6, 2024, 12:08 am
