My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Precious is a 6 year-old (Vet estimate), 13.5 lb. Yorkie girl being fostered near Beechgrove TN. Her Adoption Fee is $350.00. All adoptions require a Vet check, personal references and a home visit prior to meeting the dog. All pets in the home must be spayed/neutered, up to date on immunizations and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

Precious was picked up as a stray by animal control and taken to a rural shelter. She must have been wandering for a while because she had severe flea dermatitis that had caused her to loose most all of the hair on her back. She was scanned for a microchip and none was found. She had no collar or other identifying information so off to the shelter she went where she stayed for 10 days. No one came for her so she was released to rescue.

Precious went to the Vet and received her immunizations, treatment for flea infestation, intestinal parasites and eye infections. It was noticed that her eyes looked very dry so a test for tear production was performed. That test revealed that Precious has chronic dry eye and will need to have medicated eye drops placed in both eyes twice a day for the rest of her life. The cost of the eye drops is around $60 for two month’s supply. It was also noted that Precious had a hard lump on her chest. This was found to be a small mammary tumor which is common in dogs that are not spayed and allowed to have multiple litters of puppies. It was small and well confined and Precious had surgery to remove it and the Vet thinks it is a complete cure. Precious was also spayed and had her teeth cleaned at the same time. She will need to recover for a couple of weeks so we think she will be ready for adoption around April 7th.

Precious is the perfect name for this dog. Everything about her will just melt your heart. She is the sweetest dog I have ever been around. She is so gentle and unassuming and looks at you with sad eyes that say “I am so grateful to have a home and person to love me.” She doesn’t bark or demand but rather accepts any gesture of love or attention with gratitude. She is house trained and not a picky eater. She is content to just lay beside her person and give them an occasional kiss of gratitude. She loves to be held and petted. She is not a super high energy dog. She does have separation anxiety and will follow you from room to room. She does great with other pets including both cats and dogs. She is quite large for a Yorkie female at 13.5 pounds so she could go to a home with older children.

I am looking for a very special situation for Precious as she has been through a lot. Since she is such a gentle soul and does not like to be left alone I prefer a home where someone is home most of the time. She travels well and is very well behaved. She would be a great “take to work” dog too if that is a possibility. She would also be fine as an only dog. She does not require a fenced yard as she pretty much likes to go outside to do her “business” and then prefers to come right back in and snuggle up on the sofa with her person. She is pretty new to the leash and seems to act as though this is something she was not accustomed to in the past.

She will need to be on Tacrolimus eye drops for the rest of her life twice daily for chronic dry eye. This is not optional as this condition while it sounds ordinary is very painful and can lead to blindness if not treated. Please consider this expense (around $60 every two months but please research the cost of the drug on your own to be sure) as well as the ability to administer a drop to each eye around every 12 hours for the rest of her life before you apply to adopt Precious.
