My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated bio 4/5/16 LOUIE is a dashing, distinguished, darling 8 year old, 6 pound little sweetheart of a Yorkie boy being fostered in Winston Salem, NC.

Louie is a very sweet little boy who gets along well with everyone! He enjoys companionship whether it is from his “person” or other pups close to his size. Louie’s Foster mom says he is a smart, loving and obedient little delight. Louie has insulin dependent diabetes, which means that he requires insulin injections twice daily for the rest of his life. We would LOVE to find someone for him who has experience with a diabetic animal or has a medical background. However, many humans and animals live with diabetes and manage insulin injections on a routine basis and it is not difficult to learn. Louie’s Foster Mom would be happy to teach the right person who is committed to Louie’s care and understands the importance of medication, maintaining the proper diet and good Vet care.

In Louie’s Own Words: I am house trained/pad trained and I can wear a belly band, but sometimes I wiggle out of it (lol). I love to ride in the car; I sit in my car seat and watch Foster Mom or look outside. And although upon surrender, my owner said I was leash trained, I am not, but am working on it. I love exploring with my person or pup friend in a fenced yard. I like a little freedom to roam and a little privacy when necessary. I have my own little carrier bed and I like to sleep in it, or on the big pillow or on the couch. Please, no crate and I don’t sleep in my person’s bed cause I am a bit of a roamer at night. I have 3 places in my gated sunroom to sleep; but when my person is around I am happy to sit right next to them on the couch. I love, love, love to play, I have little small soft squeaky toys and I chew on them along with my Nyla Bone. Foster Mom says I play like a puppy! Dogtor Jeni says I am one of the healthiest diabetic dogs she has ever seen. I am not on a special diet, but low fat is recommended. No table food for me, high fat can cause serious health problems. I can have boiled chicken, which I love. My insulin intake is 1 unit every 12 hours. I sit pretty well for Foster Mom; she’s given shots before, thank goodness. I would like to have a furever home that is familiar with my diabetic condition and can commit to my somewhat inconvenient care, so that I can live a long, dignified and happy life. I can promise you lots and lots of Yorkie loves and kisses. I’m a gem of a Yorkie and I am available for adoption at United Yorkie Rescue.
