My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Belle is a 1 year old, 21lb, Schnauzer/terrier mix.

Belle was found on the streets of Houston, TX. When she was brought to the shelter she was so scared that she would not even walk. Because of this, she was immediately put on the pre-euth list because they thought she would not show well in the adoptions room. Our rescue knew that Belle just needed some TLC so we brought her here to CO to help her adjust and find a forever home.

We were worried it would take months for Belle to come out of her shell and to start feeling comfortable in her foster home, but within days she sprouted into a happy little puppy and acts like a totally different dog! Here is what the foster has to say about Belle:

"Belle (who answers to Bella) came to me a terrified dog who hid in my closet for her first 24 hours - I lay next to her touching her gently trying to make her feel at ease. The next 24 hours she ventured out to meet me and decided to stay in my bathroom. On the third day she came out to explore the house and let me approach her without fear. After that, she warmed up to me quickly and followed me everywhere I went, wagging her tail. She took a little longer to warm up to my husband - his is very tall and a little intimidating but they are good friends now. I have 5 dogs of my own and she quickly learned from them how to play and go outside to potty. She walks fairly well on a leash but must be walked with a harness. She is an explorer and if a smell or animal catches her attention she will easily twist out of a collar. She sleeps through the night on her doggy bed in our bedroom.
She is not trusting of strangers - she will bark at them initially, then just pick a corner (near you) to watch them from, after which she will slowly trust them - treats help.
Belle will need a family that is patient and understanding, for her initial adjustment period - she is not a turn-key dog so please don’t expect that from her. She will prove to be a faithful, extremely loving companion if shown the love and kindness that she needs. She went from being solitary and frightened to fun loving partner who gets so excited to see you come home her whole body shakes! She adores chasing balls and throwing around her toys, although she is really good at tearing them apart also. She has an affinity to shoe liners so be prepared - all shoes are fair game if left out!
She would do well with another dog but it’s not necessary. Cats are an unknown but we have no reason to believe she will not adapt to them."

We are now searching for Belle's forever home.
