My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bessie is a 2-3 year old Australian Cattle Dog that LOVES to run and jump! You'd think she has springs on her feet! She is compact and energetic, and total wiggle butt! Bessie would make a GREAT Frisbee, agility, or flyball dog, and would excel at any sport she played! Wherever she lands, she definitely needs a job and lots of activity! Bessie was picked up as a stray in San Antonio, TX but is VERY people friendly, like most cattle dogs, but is also VERY submissive to people. Based on her behavior, we believe Bessie was abused in her prior life. Despite this though, she LIVES for being next to her person as much as possible, and prefers to get ALL of your attention. %BD%81S Like most cattle dogs, she is slightly on the dominant side and wants to be the boss of all dogs, everywhere! (This is one reason why she needs a job and exercise, it will help temper that attitude!) Bessie gets along with dogs that get along with her but, she does like to be the boss so, it would be best to do a meat and greet first if you have other dogs. After leaving the shelter in San Antonio, TX, Bessie was fostered for a month with three other dogs, medium to large in size. She got along very well with them but, did definitely like bossing them around! The personality types that best suit her are those that are fun and playful, easy going, and non-reactive. If you know cattle dogs, you know that proper introductions are a must for a life-long friendship. We would encourage that with Bessie and also would be willing to help you achieve that, if help was needed. Bessie was heartworm positive but has been treated successfully. She had a light case of heartworms so we don't anticipate any serious complications later in life, other than those that can be associated with the treatment. Bessie knows her name and is crate trained, house trained, leash trained, and knows a few basic commands. She would benefit from a fenced yard or large farm since she is so energetic, although that is not a requirement. Bessie's only needs include a commitment to giving her the best life, giving her a job or playing a dog sport with her (doesn't have to be competitively), loving her forever, and being her best friend. However, prior herding/working dog experience is required!! Please email if you are interested in adopting Bessie and forever making her a part of your family. We require an adoption application, references, home check and adoption contract. Her adoption fee is $225, and she is up to date on vaccinations, HW negative and taking preventative, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped. Each adoption is considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the dog and their requirements as well as the family and their circumstances. Please email or call if interested. Please, NO TEXT MESSAGES.
