My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Queenie is a spectacular pet in need of a home experienced with German Shepherds. 5-6 years old in age, she is a protective girl who is not very stranger tolerant, so the meet-and-greet procedure with her must be more drawn out and she belongs only in a home comfortable with not allowing strangers to make direct contact with their dog. Other than that, she is pretty close to perfect. She can be in public settings where strangers are respectfully hands off. Approximately four years old, she was pulled from a high kill shelter in Texas heavily pregnant and successfully raised a litter of puppies while being a wonderful mom. She is now ready to move onto a forever ending of her own :) She is purebred, although her ears did fail to stand, and a real deal GSD. She is GREAT company - very playful, joyful and extremely affectionate. If a German Shepherd can be merry, that would be her. She is highly intelligent (both the good and the bad....she is an escape artist who can range from smart to daring), very responsible, forms a strong bond, and is an energetic girl with an extremely playful and fun personality. For the breed, she is not a noisy dog, does great with other dogs, and is ok around cats. Older children only, please, as toddlers make her nervous.

THE RIGHT HOME for Queenie needs to have breed experience. Queenie is territorial and protective by her nature. When displaced, she forms a strong bond, but meet-and-greets will require patience and understanding as she is not receptive to strangers. This is a higher energy girl who belongs with someone active. She crates well and is overall a good housedog, but if bored and under stimulated will be destructive. She will do fine in a home with another dog and has learned not to bother cats, but she should not be around smaller children - they are very foreign to her and she finds their movements unsettling. If you need a dog who can thrive in social settings, she is not the dog for you as while she can be socialized better with strangers, her social circle being an elite group of knowns is inherent to both her and the breed itself. If, however, you seek a adventurous companion, up for anything, who bonds strongly and is extremely loyal, she could be the dog for you.

Unfortunately, we are unable to adopt to Massachusetts residents at this time. Applications are available at our southpawsexpress.org website or via contacting Lucy at maramuser@gmail.com. Her adoption fee is $450.
