My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stark is a 3-month old bull terrier puppy mixed with _____________ (fill in whatever you’d like him to be mixed with—we don’t have a clue!) With his very relaxed temperament, he’s the perfect little guy for people who want a puppy without all the fuss.

Puppies are not known for their manners, but Stark is a very well-behaved pup, in part because he’s so smart. Unusual for a 3-month old, he understands—and responds to—No! Since he was fond of jumping up, he was quickly trained for “Off!” He is also learning “No Biting” when he gets too mouthy. He has learned not to chase ducks, chickens or turkeys. (Stark’s foster home is a farm.)

When it’s time to play, Stark is pure puppy. His favorite toy is a partially deflated soccer ball, which he loves to fetch and bring back. He will happy run after just about anything and bring it back to you, though baseballs and tennis balls are particular favorites. He also likes squeaky toys, but nothing competes with the balls and the joy of running around in the yard.

Stark will run around as long as you’ll let him, and eventually he’ll bring all the toys back to you. Then he’s ready for some snuggle time. Stark is affectionate, but he’s not a clingy dog. He likes to be close. He’ll sit right next to you, but not on you. He respects your personal space. While he’s sitting beside you, if you were to, say, move a hand over his way and start a little belly rub action, he would not object. He likes to have his ears scratched, too. He’s not a kissy dog, but if you are very, very good, you might occasionally snag a little lick.

It is very important to Stark that you are in his line of sight at all times. If you turn a corner, he’s going to follow you to keep track of just exactly where you are. This has the benefit that he can walk through the farm property where he lives with no worry of escape. Even without a leash, he will always stay near Dogmom and Dogdad.

Stark sleeps through the night. While he likes to lay in bed at your feet while you’re awake, he prefers to sleep on the floor. He will, however, happily nap with Dogdad on the couch.

Stark is excellent with the other dogs in his foster home. He tries to get the bigger dogs to play with him, though without much luck. The little chi puppies he lives with are more willing to play, but Stark doesn’t understand that he towers over them and scares them.

He respects the other dogs’ food dishes (though he’ll be very happy to snarf up any leftovers, thank you very much) and won’t fight over toys.

Stark is a lot more mellow than other pups his age. True to his puppy nature, he loves to play, but if it’s not play time, he’s very relaxed. He is very respectful of the senior dogs in the house. Stark would easily fit into any household—family with young children, retiree couple. . .he could even be a good apartment dog because he is so relaxed.

We got Stark when one of our members heard him crying in an apartment dumpster, where he had been left for trash. This incredible little puppy was not fazed at all by the experience and looks for fun and love wherever he can find it.
