Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jan. 4th: This boy needed rescue from the county owned shelter for being fearful in August of 2016. He was found as a stray dog and brought into the shelter and held for their mandatory "stray hold period". When that was up and nobody came to the shelter looking for him, the shelter staff tested him to determine if they could then adopt him out to the general public or not. They decided they could not because he failed their tests and was deemed "aggressive" or a bite risk. They put him on a list to be either rescued by a dog charity or "euthanized". Well, we could not allow Channing to become a shelter statistic and to die, so we rescued him and put him into both a temporary foster home and into training with a positive reinforcement (both force and punishment-free training techniques) dog expert.
Channing has now been with us approx. 4 months and is doing incredibly well in his foster home but still has some trust issues. We are looking for a special person to adopt Channing from us. He is approx. 1.5 years old and weighs about 12 lbs.
He needs someone very patient and calm to adopt him, as he doesn't do too well with new people and needs to gain trust with you slowly and at his own pace! We do offer assistance with this to all of our Sacramento-area adopters through our professional, full time dog trainer and behaviorist - complimentary with all adoptions!
Since Channing is uncomfortable with strangers reaching for him or handling him, we've had to stipulate no children and ideally, we want someone who is single and no other critters (although he does fine with all other dogs) or frequent visitors, so that Channing will be THE apple of your eye!
