My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Charlie is definately a fluffy! He is a Collie or Sheltie mix, with a beautiful flowing coat and pluming tail. He came into the shelter in rather poor condition, and one of our volunteers Brenda - who is used to grooming long haired dogs - had to do some trimming work to cut out the mats that couldn't be brushed out. He came into the shelter because he was caught in a trap that had been set to catch a group  of dogs in the area, but caught Charlie instead. At the shelter, he was reported to be "slow to warm up", but nobody told him that when we met him! He was slightly shy and reserved in the run, but when we took him outside to test him, he was confident and happy, and passed our temperament assessment easily! We kept that report in the back of our head when we took him to the jail, and instructed the handlers to not touch him unless he asked to be touch. Much to our surprise, he pranced right in like he was supposed to be there, and without hesitation, greeted everyone there. I think he knew he was supposed to be a Canine CellMates dog!

Charlie is a beautiful boy - tan with white and black points. He is around 3 years old, and a perfectly sized 37 pounds. He is friendly with humans and female dogs - he may be selective about other males, but we're not sure. He is smart, playful and attentive, and is doing well with his training. He likes to give puppy kisses, cuddle and get belly rubs. Charlie is heartworm positive, but no worries there, as Canine CellMates will be taking care of his heartworm treatment.

If this beautiful boy looks like your kind of dog, you need to hurry and get your application in for him - he's sure to be very popular!!

Canine CellMates dogs are trained in items similar to the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. They learn basic obedience and commands such as sit, down, stay, etc.  If you are interested in adopting Charlie, please fill out an adoption application at www.caninecellmates.org, and email it to adopt@caninecellmates.org.
