A German Shepherd mix. She was born in 2004 and has been one of 4 dogs for most of her life in a large yard in Garden Grove. Her owner is trying to place her permanently due to economic hardship brought on by a serious health issue.
Gena is now homeless and is being boarded with a vet until help can be found.
Today, Gena needs a safe harbor and we are seeking a permanent end of life home for her where she can finish out her days with all the love and attention she deserves. She is one of those dogs that is so grateful for the smallest kindness and once you meet her, she touches your heart in a way that makes you feel that no obstacle is to great to help her rehabilitate and be a vibrant senior.
What we know about Gena is she is very smart and has a happy/very sweet disposition. She was groomed this week for the first time in a very long time and the techs were able to clean up her flea infestation. She has some significant hair loss on her back end because of the fleas, but her hair will grow back with good food and Vitamin E or Flax Oil. She is about 10 lbs underweight and needs some groceries to pick up her weight up and get her short furry coat back to shiny and beautiful. She loves to walk on a leash and is interested in everything.
1/19/16 - I visited Gena today at the vets office and she was so excited to have company. She was very prancey and ran around the office waiting for the door to open so she could leave. I could tell she was feeling fantastic – this was our first visit together but she greeted me like an old friend. Gena made great eye contact with me, and sat between my legs for pets and hugs. She was very warm and smiled a lot. I was surprised to see her jump up and counter serf a couple times, so she has good strength in her back end even though her conformation seems a little off. If you look at her from the side, she slopes down a little on her back end. This could be her normal conformation or possibly some arthritis. She doesn’t like her mouth touched, but I checked and her teeth and eyes are clear. She has yeast ears and needs drops to clear it up.
Ideally, Gena needs an end of life home where she can be part of a senior pack or just someone’s special girl but because of the time and financial constraints, she needs a rescue/home as soon as possible. Gena has a very strong life force and would flourish with the right care and love. She is a energizer bunny and I could see her going at least 2-3 more years.
