My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Achu is a male Shih Tzu mix approximately 2 years old. He has a soft, flowy brown and white coat that is low-shedding. A-Chew is a bigger, sturdy size weighing 25 pounds full grown. He is a refined gentleman and likes a peaceful environment where he can relax and hang out with his people. Achu likes attention, but he is not needy and will happily poke around by himself or lay contentedly by your feet. He adores walks and will get all excited when he knows he's going for a stroll. He has a nice amount of energy for longer walks, but when he gets home he is happy to flop down in the nearest dog bed and watch the world go by or cuddle up for a snooze. Achu likes the company of other dogs but he does not need another dog in the household to feel secure. He would be fine as an only dog, doted on and pampered by his owners. Achu loves to be stroked on the head and talked to. He will tilt his head and listen which is so cute. Achu loves treats and will eagerly gobble up anything offered. He is a good eater and an easy keeper. Achu will thrive in a calm home where he can feel secure and cared for. He loves to be wherever his people are, even if you are busy with other things. Achu just likes to keep you company. Achu was rescued from a very high-volume/high-kill shelter where he was brought in stray. Achu has been vet checked and is healthy. Achu is going to make a nice pet and is ready for his new forever loving home today!

A-Chew’s adoption donation is $425. He has been NEUTERED, VACCINATED, DEWORMED, DEFLEAED.

Achu is currently under foster care in group home setting in Korea. We plan on bringing him to Northern Virginia in late March upon finding a forever family for him.

Prior to rescue, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization and it takes time for them to learn about life as a family pet. Common skills such as house training and leash walking may often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
We typically do not adopt to homes with children under 8 years old.
A home check is mandatory before adoption.
Adoption fee is $425.

If interested in Achu, please email us with a little info about you, your family, your other pets, your experience as a dog owner (which breed, etc.), where you live (which city, home or apt?), etc. including telephone number. Thank you.

*** About us ***
Hope For Donghae Paws(HDP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to bringing rescue dogs from Korea to the US and finding permanent homes for them. It is true there are many animal lovers in Korea, but still many dogs suffer and are killed for food.
Our mission is to find US homes for mixed-breed dogs whose chances of being adopted in their native Korea are very low.
