My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MAX is an approximately 2 year old black male with natural ears. He was turned in to the shelter for separation anxiety, so we'll be watching for signs of this. Max just came into rescue and is being evaluated. He's good with other dogs as long as they don't get snappy with him. We suspect he'll have to be placed with a submissive female. A full write-up will be available soon. Max came to MAGDRL in October 2008.

Update 10/27/08 - Max is adjusting well in his new foster home. He plays very well with the foster’s 12 lb male daschie, and is learning to get along with her assertive shepherd. He’s great with kids and is a very sweet and loving boy. Max was originally thought to be 4 yrs old but his foster mom is sure he’s much younger - his activity level and his puppy antics make him more likely to be 2. He was turned into the shelter for separation anxiety, and the foster home sees some of this but some is also just a 2 year old getting into things. He’s had a few issues in the house with the other large dogs - if they start something, Max is swift to make sure they know he’s king of the castle. For this reason, he’ll need to go with a submissive dog or one who won’t get snarky with him. He will jump a baby gate to get to his people.

Update 11/30/08 - Max has been doing wonderful, he really is a sweet boy. He adores children, seems to be ALL children of every age and sex, from 6 weeks old to teenagers. He is very cautious around the very small children. He does well with ALL dogs, deals with every situation, but does take time with aggressive dogs - he will defend himself but doesn't start anything. He has been with a 12 pound Doxie (male) playing till they drop from exhaustion and also played the same with a 11 month old Dane (male). Currently he is in a house with 4 other male dogs and 1 female and is really awesome. He is good with cats although if they run, he will give chase. He also has had and experience with the foster's parrot: she was squawking at him, he jumped up on the cage and she screamed at him and it seems to be all over now and he respects the bird. The foster has had her outside of the cage and all he wanted to do was sniff her. Max's manners are remarkable, he listens to NO, sit, down, paw... He still walks a little hard on a leash, but is doing better. He rides great in a car and loves to cuddle while sleeping on the couch with you. He gives delicate kisses, not those huge, slobbery kisses. He is a very clean dog, who tip toes around the mud and puddles outside. Although he doesn't like his feet touched too much, he will let you clip his nails without the need of a muzzle or a 2nd person. His downfall is he still thinks when you leave that you are not coming back and he does get a little panicky, he will sometimes have a pee accident (but is crate trained), I choose not to use it for short trips. And he will sometimes chew something up. Max is VERY puppy and needs to be in a home with other dogs. He loves children and people. He will guard high value people food but is OK around other dogs and regular dog food. He does wait for his turn and is not greedy, if he is waiting. Max is patiently waiting for his forever home--won't you let him snuggle into your heart?
