My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lt. Dan arrived at the shelter six months ago after being rescued off Craigslist by one of our volunteers. When he arrived he looked tired and was in too small a cage. One of his legs was missing but it appeared to be an old injury. From the band on his good leg, we determined that he was about 25 years old. We have little other background info on him.

After a trip to the vet, Dan was given an antibiotic for an infection (which quickly cleared up) and was put on long-term pain medicine for arthritis in his remaining leg. One of our volunteers set up a handicapped cage for him to make it easier for him to get around.

He likes to relax on his platform and rest his leg, but he is also much more active now and can move about easily in the new cage. He climbs his ladder, plays with toys, and takes baths.

He is friendly but is not used to being handled. He would do well with someone who has some bird experience and is willing to give him pain medicine daily plus routine vet checkups. He is a good boy and readily takes the liquid medicine -- it must taste good!
