My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB 4/14/17, As of 6/9/17 11.1 lbs
Ernie likes to chill and hang out with his people, but also loves playtime with his siblings. He has a pretty balanced disposition.
Their Basset Mix mom was rescued pregnant, and arrived to A Journey Home with her six babies. A second breed guess, is Bernese Mountain Dog, although we do not know who the dad was.
He has been raised and fostered with children and other dogs, so does well with both. They will need basic training including housebreaking, leash and crate training. To achieve this and socialization , they will need someone home most of the day.
A JOURNEY HOME DOES NOT DO OUT-OF-STATE ADOPTIONS ON UNALTERED PUPPIES
PLEASE READ OUR PROCESS BELOW BEFORE SENDING AN INQUIRY. THANK YOU!!

Thank you for your interest in adopting!

A Journey Home is a 501c3, all foster/volunteer based rescue. Our rescues are living with families in their homes. We do not have a shelter.
If you are interested in adopting, please email ajourneyhomedogrescue@gmail.com to request an application. After your application has been received and given a preliminary approval, you will be contacted by an adoption coordinator who will conduct a phone interview. Final approval will be granted following a successful meet and greet with the entire family.

A Journey Home does not do out-of-state adoptions on unaltered puppies. Spay/neuter surgery is not done on puppies under 6 months of age.
If adopting a puppy under the age of 6 months, we require that the adopter schedules the spay/neuter at our participating vet clinic when age appropriate. If the adopter chooses to use their own vet, A Journey Home will reimburse the adopter $50.

Our standard adoption fee is $300, payable by cash or check. The fee includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, a free vet visit at one of our participating clinics, and micro-chipping.

First time pet owners will be required to sign up for a puppy/training class at a place of their choice. There will be an additional $50 added to your adoption fee, which will be refunded to you upon proof the class was completed.

Please note that breed and size are our best guesses, while ages are estimated by our vets and are not guaranteed.

PLEASE consider becoming a foster home, and find out how rewarding it can be! A Journey Home provides basic needs, including medical expenses at our participating clinics located in Wheaton, Naperville, and Geneva. You supply the love! High kill shelters are overcrowded with dogs and puppies that need our help. More fosters on our team means we can save more lives!
