My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sometimes you meet a dog and just instantly know they'll change you. They make you stop in your tracks and slow down just a second to sit with them and learn something. This weekend that dog for many of us at TDR became our new girl Marmalade.

Marmalade's backstory is a sad one. Saved from a house fire, her owners knew where she was. They didn't come back for her at the shelter. After numerous attempts to reconnect, the loving shelter workers decided it was time to move on to bigger and better things for her. They loved her and cared for her for months. Marmalade sat in her run since March, waiting.

On top of surviving a house fire and then being abandoned, at some point she underwent one of the most horrific hack jobs we've seen on her ears. She has a raging ear infection in one that is painful just to look at. She has an unknown foot injury (not broken) that causes her to limp. Part of her tongue is missing. She's clearly been bred numerous times. You'd understand if her spirits were down.

Except they aren't. The facts above are part of her story, but they don't define who she is. Marmalade is HAPPY. She exudes joy and has made friends instantly with every person and dog she's met. Her tail wags and beats the ground as she quickly rolls over for a belly rub. On Saturday, Marmalade went to the vet and stopped by our adoption event and was a rockstar at both. One of our long time volunteers calls her one of the best dogs we've ever met. We understand why.

We are so lucky at TDR to have fosters who will step up for dogs like Marmalade who truly just needed a chance. This middle-aged mama truly shines and we're honored Thank Dog gets to help polish her up. Welcome to the good life, Marmalade. We've got you from here.
