My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BILLY is 2.5 years old and 12#. His adoption fee is $375 and includes all vetting (neuter/spay, dental cleaning, immunizations, microchip and chip registration).  A Vet reference, personal references, and home visit are required for adoption. You may apply to adopt Billy by going to our website at www.unitedyorkierescue.org and completing the adoption application located on our home page.

Updated bio 7-12-17 Billy is a sweet 2-year-old yorkie mix. He weighs 12 pounds. Billy's had a rough start in life, but things are already getting better for him. Billy is being fostered in Leesburg, FL.

Billy wants to tell you all about what a great dog he is.

Hello, my name is Billy and I am looking for my forever and ever family. I am the perfect dog for a family, even one with some well-behaved kids who are maybe around 9 years old and older who would like to play with a great pup like me. I would love another young dog to play with me, but I have to tell you that I do not share toys very well, and I steal them from the other dogs in my foster home. I really want them all. My foster mom and dad tell me I am a toy hoarder. It’s just that I love toys, toys, toys. Also I sure do love to run around in the fenced backyard, so I really have to have a home with a fenced yard for me because I like to run and there are so many wonderful things out there to chase. In the backyard there is so much to see and smell. I really, truly need a home with a nice fenced yard, big enough for me to run around in because I do love to run and I have the legs to prove it. I like to chase everything that moves and once I almost caught a lizard, but my foster dad stopped me. I am an active dog and would love an active family. I love everyone and I get along great with other dogs. I’m almost perfect if I must say so myself, except I am not a good sharer, which is true. Sometimes I also like to steal things from the trash so just remember to put a lid on it. But hey, I am a young dog, and after all that’s what we doggies do.

I am the best boy you could ever want. Here are all the great things about me: I am a great eater, I sleep all night, but in my foster parents’ bed, I ride nicely in the car, and I do okay on a leash. My foster parents said I am mostly house trained but not quite totally, so I do need to be taken out often. I am learning that I have to do all my business all the time outside and I am almost there. I love everyone and there’s no one I don’t get along with whether you have two feet or four, I think I even like the cats that lives in my foster home, except I am not sure they like me. I also wouldn’t like to be left home alone for a long time. I know I would be very lonely.

I am a young fellow. The vet says I might be around 2 years old, but my foster parents think I might be younger. I have had all my vaccinations, and I got that operation, you know the one that means I can’t ever make puppies. The people at the vet were so nice to me. They said I am so cute, and I sure am. They also said I have this very slight heart murmur. A grade one they called it. They said it would not affect me in any way and I will live a long and healthy life. It sure hasn’t slowed me down one bit.

If you would like an almost perfect pup, one who loves everyone and will give you lots and lots of kisses, I am your guy. If you want a fellow who likes to run and play you should pick me to be yours. My foster mom and dad said I am about the best pup they have ever known and anyone who adopts me will be the luckiest people ever. So get lucky and put in an adoption application for me. You won’t be sorry.

NOTE: Please remember that Billy is a young fellow and would need a family who can give him at least a 15-17 year commitment.

BIO 06/26/2017: Billy is an oh-so-sweet 2 year old cutie. It has been discovered that Billy does have a very low-grade heart murmur. It is only a Grade1 and it will not affect his life at all. He is not restricted or limited in any way as far as activity or anything. There is no medication necessary and he will live a long, full life.

On a not-so-good note, this poor sweet boy contacted kennel cough while in the shelter. He was in his foster home 4 days and then the cough came along with some sneezing and gunky eyes. Kennel cough is frequently contracted when dogs are in a shelter situation. Dogs almost never die from it, but they don’t feel well. Billy is currently on medication and cough syrup, but even without the meds, kennel cough will generally run its course in 3 weeks.

Kennel cough is highly contagious to other dogs. Therefore, Billy will not be able to be adopted until it is completely cleared up. Applications will be taken, but an adoption won’t happen for at least 3 weeks. It is hard to know Billy’s real personality because he just doesn’t feel well. It will be fun to know the real Billy once he feels better and Billy become who Billy really is.

Initial Bio 6-21-17 Meet Billy. This 2-year-old, oh so sweet boy has had a rough few months. He was found on the streets looking pretty thin and rough. He was taken to the shelter and cleaned up. After being held for 5 days on his stray hold waiting and hoping for his family to come find him he was put up for adoption. He actually had an adopter who was ready to take him home. They decided they didn’t want him because the shelter vet heard a heart murmur in the left side of his heart. They were concerned they couldn't help him. The shelter decided that he needed rescue as soon as possible to check out the heart murmur that was heard, but not deemed an emergency. They were also unable to neuter him because of the murmur. This poor little guy ended up having to spend 10 days in the shelter waiting for someone to get him out of there.

You couldn’t have seen a happier dog when the shelter worker brought out Billy to meet the United Yorkie Rescue angels who came to get him. That day four members, who just happened to be spending the day together, rushed to the shelter after hearing that Billy needed them. They dropped everything and all together they went to get him. It was a Save the Pup mission. For Billy it was like his birthday and he couldn’t have been a happier boy. He jumped into the van and settled down like he had been a part of this group forever.

Billy has only been in his foster home a little over a day, but he has shown that he is a super dog. He is friendly and sweet, smart and personable. He is getting along with the other dogs in the home. He gobbled down his food and licked his bowl clean. He has given kisses to his foster mom and dad, and has shown no aggression at all to anyone. Billy figured out all on his own how to get on the bed and even use the doggie steps to get down. He was fine sleeping in his doggie bed during the night. He loves the backyard, but also walked nicely on the leash. He seems to know some commands and it is possible he is house trained, though his foster parents will find out more about that in days to come. He loves people, no question about that, and looks like he wants to play, but is not really sure yet.

Billy is a yorkie mix. He has an adorable yorkie face but at 12 pounds he definitely is a mix, maybe schnauzer. He is a tall dog for his size with a longer tail and longer legs. It is possible at his size and young age he may be a good dog for a family with well-behaved children over the age of 8 or 9.

Billy goes to the vet on the 23rd. At that time we will know more about his heart murmur and hopefully he will be neutered. Once we know more we will know when Billy will be ready for his forever home. Come back soon to find out.
