My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scout is a 10-year-old, 14 pound Yorkie Boy being fostered in Salem, VA. Scout has an update in his own words.

Hello there every Pawdy! It’s me, Scout! It been a crazy month for me! Long story short, ever since I came into UYR I kept having these terrible ear infections. They hurt really bad and no matter how hard the Dogtor tried the infections would not clear up. I was sent to the University Veterinary school to try to figure out what might be able to help me. I had a test called a CT scan and they found a tumor deep inside my ear canal. Foster Mom was told a surgery called a Total Ear Canal Ablation was the best option for me. That means that had to remove all the inner parts of my ear and that I would be mostly deaf in that ear. That part was okay, since the tumor and infection pretty much made me that way already. The surgery cost a lot of money. I could tell Foster Mom was worried about me and that made me worry too. Would there be enough kind-hearted people in the world to donate money to help a ten-year-old rescued Yorkie like me? We both prayed the answer would be Yes and pretty soon the money started coming in and I had a surgery date! I was scared when foster Mom had to leave me at the University for 2 nights but I was a good boy because I knew she would come and take me home and I would feel better. I was so happy when that happened and I felt so much better too (except for the big cone that I didn’t like). Then a few more days passed and I noticed foster Mom was sad again. I overheard her tell foster Dad that the pathology report had come back and it was something called “adenocarcinoma” or cancer. Back we went to the Dogtor and now I needed to see another specialist called an oncologist which I think is a cancer Dogtor. When we went in this time I saw the same worry on Foster Mom and Dad’s faces and I didn’t understand what was going on. There were a lot of really big words used that little Yorkies don’t understand but this time we all left smiling because the news was good. In a nut shell, the oncologist said this diagnosis is not going to shorten my life span because the surgery got almost all of it and if it should start to return (slight chance) it is slow growing and I should live a normal, healthy, happy life span. I do need to have an adopter who will keep an eye on me for any signs or return but no one expects that to happen. I am very good boy. I LOVE being with my person, going for car rides, going for walks and getting lots of belly rubs. I love squeaky toys and play time. I would LOVE a fenced yard but frequent leash walks work too. I am smart and know basic commands from doggie school. I am house-trained, get along with other dogs and will make some lucky human VERY HAPPY. I am NOT a fan of crates so a home where I can have free roaming privileges is important. I am ready for my forever home. Please consider adopting me today or email my foster mom for more information at Srodabaugh@yahoo.com or complete an application to adopt me here http://www.unitedyorkierescue.org/?page_id=33

UYR has spent over $5000 getting me healthy. If you can help towards my Vet bills I would be SO VERY GRATEFUL!!!! You can do so at this link and THANK YOU! https://www.youcaring.com/scout-851099
