My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What do puppy mills, backyard breeders and hoarders have in common? They all enable horrible living conditions for animals. Animals are bred over and over until they outlive their usefulness. Many times they are tied up or live in cages where little food or water is provided.
Lucy is an example of one of these animals. She was rescued from a hoarding situation where we are sure she was bred many times, most likely was kept outside and never knew a gentle hand or kind word. Lucy didn’t do well in the shelter and was shutting down. She was scared and would just stand staring at the floor. When she was rescued from her hoarding situation, she was underweight had parasites, hair loss, fleas and ticks and was HW+.
It broke our hearts to see her suffering and we felt she deserved so much more. We decided to put her in temporary foster care to see if she would respond to a home environment. At first, she was scared to walk on floors and preferred to dig a hole in the yard and stay there where she felt safe. After a week, we are happy to say she now feels comfortable inside, loves sleeping in the bed, and found her bark.
We took Lucy to the vets yesterday where they estimated she was probably 10 years old. We had bloodwork done and it looks good. She has been treated for her parasites and her coat is now shiny and beautiful. How sad to realize the suffering she’s been through. It is amazing what a few days with good food and much love will do.
Yes, she is an older lady and moves slowly but she still has love to give and we are hoping we can find her a permanent home. She gets along with other dogs and loves children. Can you open up your heart and home to her?
