My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Harley is a 10 month old, 10 pound Silky Terrier Mix puppy. Harley recently had Liver Shunt surgery to save his life. Harley is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.

Harley's adoption fee is $650 and includes all vetting (neuter/spay, dental cleaning, immunizations, microchip and chip registration).  A Vet reference, personal references, and home visit are required for adoption. You may apply to adopt Harley by going to our website at www.unitedyorkierescue.org and completing the adoption application located on our home page.

UPDATED BIO 10/04/2017: Harley’s follow-up appointment went great and the Bile Acids Test showed that his surgery was a success! He is only a puppy, but is on his way to the rest of his life, which will be a much healthier and happier life due to the life-saving Liver Shunt surgery he received.

Harley’s vetting expenses are currently $2,475.29, so United Yorkie Rescue is hopeful that we can continue to raise a majority of these vetting costs so that we will be able to help other little medically-needy dogs like Harley. Without the Liver Shunt surgery, Harley would not have lived a very long life …… Harley and United Yorkie Rescue want to thank those of you who have so generously donated - from the bottom of our hearts.

UPDATED BIO 09/27/2017: Good News! Harley had his Liver Shunt surgery on August 7th and is doing really great. He has his follow-up appointment with the surgeon on October 3rd, so stay tuned for some additional information after this appointment. His Bile Acids will be re-checked to determine if the surgery was successful (and it appears to be!), and once that determination is made, Harley can go back to eating regular dog food instead of the RX food he has been eating.

Harley is a playful 10 month old puppy and loves his toys. He is still learning proper puppy manners and will get protective of his toys, but he is learning from the other dogs, and his foster parents are also working with him on this. He has not yet been on-leash, but is wearing a harness. His foster parents had to evacuate during Hurricane Irma and their back-yard fence was torn down, so walking Harley has not been possible recently. House-training is a work in progress, but with consistency and repetition, he will get it quickly – he’s a smart little boy.

Harley gets along great with all the other dogs in the home, and lots to play non-stop with Jazzy girl, one of the resident dogs. His little tail goes a mile a minute most of the time.

Harley is such a sweetheart of a puppy; he loves to crawl up on foster mom & dad’s chests and give lots of kisses. He is a sensitive little guy and gets his feelings hurt fairly easily. What does this mean? Well, his foster parents can see the sadness in his eyes (he literally pouts with his eyes) when he isn't allowed up on their chests. Bless his heart. However, most of the time, Harley is just a big frumpy puppy who doesn't have a care in the world. Why should he have any cares? He’s an adorable and happy puppy and is waiting for his forever home to find him. Could that be your home?

Meet Harley United Yorkie Rescue's newest puppy. Imagine this, you are only 9 months old, still very young, just a puppy, and you are now in your third home. That is what Harley the puppy has already gone through. His first family knew he was getting sicker and sicker and they did nothing. He never saw the vet, he received no puppy care, and he was close to death. Thank goodness for Harley his second family saved him. They took him in and immediately rushed him to the vet. There he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and then is was discovered he had a liver shunt and without surgery to fix it he could die.

As much as his second family loved him and wanted him, they were unable to afford this expensive operation after having already spent over a thousand dollars on his care. That is when United Yorkie Rescue stepped it. Somehow we had to get Harley from Alabama to Florida to get that much needed surgery. It took a village to do this. With help from another rescue, a wonderful flight attendant, and the generosity of Delta Airlines, Harley made it to Florida and will soon get that much needed operation.

Harley is just a puppy, He had such a rough start in his short life. Now it is time for everyone to step up and let Harley know that people won't let him down ever again. Please, whatever you can give, help United Yorkie Rescue give Harley the future he deserves. We can't do it alone. Reach into your hearts and into your pockets and make a donation to Harley and know you played an important part in saving his life.

This is what Harley's foster mom had to say about her new little foster puppy.
Please welcome the newest boy, the cutest boy, to the United Yorkie Rescue’s puppy boys' club! What we already know about Harley so far is that he is a super, super, sweet little boy who loves and trusts everyone, despite having been abused in his short little life.

We also know that he travels really well in a car, gets along great with other dogs and cats, and will sleep in his crate all night long. He also appears to be mostly housebroken. He loves to play fetch with his ball, and has been seen playing soccer with it all on his own. He’s such a loving, trusting little guy, that you just can’t help loving him as soon as you meet him.

Now for the sad news…Harley is also a very, very sick little puppy. He has been diagnosed with having a liver shunt, and will require a lot of medical care, including major surgery, prior to being up for adoption. That’s where United Yorkie Rescue stepped in, and, even though he is so sick, took Harley in so we could help him. We want to be able to give Harley the gift of life, but we need your help to do so.

We rely solely on donations to help these sick babies, and any gift that you can give makes us one step closer to giving him the gift of life that he SO deserves. If you can find it in your heart to help Harley, please click on the donate button underneath his bio, and donate anything you can give. You can follow Harley’s story by checking back for updates to his bio page.
