Opie was rescued previously from a junk yard. We later got him from a nearby resident who could no longer afford to feed him. Unfortunately, we bit off more than we could chew with Opie. Originally, my husband got Opie because he thought Opie would be able to held defend the organic chickens that were being taken out daily by foxes. Opie isn't much for hunting and prefers to lay around the house. He is a high maintenance dog that gets a skin condition every summer and needs to be brushed often. He listens to commands but if scolded, he will lay down and whimper as though he's been beaten. We assume this is because of his traumatic past. He gets along with other dogs that don't come after him - for example, he gets along with two of my kids dogs (a german shepherd and an Alaskan dog), however, he does not get along with one of my other kids dog which is a boxer (female). However, the boxer doesn't get along with all dogs. Opie loves to drink out of the hose outside and lay around.
