My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Schmitty and I LOVE YOU! I just needed you to know that. I am a 4-and-a-half-year-old, neutered male meatball. Just kidding. I'm not a meatball, I'm a dog! I'm a very affectionate boy who lives to please my humans. I know my basic commands and I will work for treats, which I take very gently, I might add. I like other dogs, too. They're a close second to my human friends. I have a happy-go-lucky, friendly, upbeat and outgoing personality. Big, small, male, female dogs - you name it! They're all friends in my book. I'd do best in a home with no cats, though. I play this game where I chase them, and they don't seem to like it very much ... I can't figure out why. I happen to think it's hilarious. I do like tiny humans, but I sometimes get so excited that I can't put on my doggy brakes and might accidentally knock them over. Older kids who can see me coming are great though. More play friends for Schmitty! I also love the water. I just love the sound my paws make when I splash around. My humans tell me I'm a "goofball" and that I'll have you laughing in no time. Now that I'm accepting applications for humans, here are some things that I'd love: someone who will love with me, give me ear scratches, belly rubs, long walks, and lots of play time! Oh and cuddle time, of course. That's my favorite thing to do. If I sound like the right dog for you, apply today! Adoption fee: $75. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, 30 days of free pet insurance, one session with a behavior trainer and microchip.

Adoption and Foster Care Application

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.

Examples:

Adoption Process:
Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
