My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ADOPTION PENDING . . . . Toby is a very handsome, 22 pound, adolescent Lhasa Apso, born 01/01/2016. He has a luxurious, high maintenance, non-shedding, soft white coat with tan markings. Toby is everything that makes the Lhasa Apso such a magnificent breed .... intelligent, quiet, an excellent companion without being clingy or demanding, regal, independent and stubborn. Lhasa dislike disruption of daily habits and need close human contact. Toby arrived at the Safehouse on 07/17/2017; his life to that point had been anything but peaceful. His elderly owner was unable to handle him, he was being beaten and biting back. Fortunately an animal lover rescued Toby and brought him to the Safehouse. Being unwanted left Toby insecure and desperate for the affection he had been denied from puppyhood. With loving consistency, gentle discipline, space and time to heal, Toby has become more self-confident; he will follow us everywhere, eager for reassurance, cuddles and treats; he even gives little kisses. Toby is very noisy when approached by strangers, wary, not aggressive just cautious and unsure (that can be just as dangerous if not properly handled). He really is a loving dog, just a youngster after all. Toby has been working with a personal trainer from Suburban K9 and is developing proficiency in obedience commands, sit, down, stay, come, heal, no, and leave it. However, this is not a dog for a novice dog owner or a family with young children. His future pet parents will be expected to continue his training and two free required follow-up sessions are included in his adoption fee. Toby will be best in an adult home. Right now, Toby needs a safe quiet stable environment that will allow him the time and space he needs to continue to regain his confidence and recover from the trauma of his short life to date. Toby is housetrained but will need help adjusting to your household and schedule. He enjoys playing with toys, loves petting and attention, sitting next to you or in your lap, and going for walks. Well behaved for grooming and at the vet, he gets along with other small dogs, cats are an unknown. Toby is a perfect pet for someone who wants a loving, quiet, intelligent and utterly devoted companion; a caregiver who can appreciate his Lhasa magnificence and manage his very normal Lhasatude. Toby is healthy, neutered, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and he has had a complete physical and dental. His adoption fee is $400.
