My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 3/12/2009: Coby here - I'm 3 y/o and weigh a healthy 14# - I'm being fostered in Miami, FL.

Foster Mom says I'm her little 'teddy bear' cuz' I'm super sweet and love to play fetch (although it's kinda funny to watch her try to catch me when I run away from her with the ball in my mouth!). I'm also housetrained and have been accident-free for a long time now. So......I'm not really sure why I haven't been adopted yet. I think I'm pretty handsome (and the hair on my muzzle is FINALLY growing in since they shaved it at the shelter). I'm also really a nice yorkie boy. I've lived with 6 different foster pups who have come and gone, and I haven't had a problem with any of them. I like dogs, but I don't really play with them. I prefer my 'people'. I'm also not too interested in cats unless the cat likes to run (then it's fun to chase them!). Maybe it's my size? I'm definitely no frou-frou Yorkie. I'm a sturdy boy and am perfect for a family with kids 12 y/o or older.

Here's my story....I was hit by a car in November and had some pretty serious injuries that cost UYR a lot of money. Don't be sad, though! I'm all better now. The only thing you might notice is that I favor my back left leg every now and then. Sometimes I can even go into an all-out sprint with only 3 legs. The Dogtor told my FM that it will take a long time for the limp to completely go away since I was hurt so badly..... but nothing stops me! I'm SuperDog Coby!

Well, I love my FM and everything, but she says it's time to find a place of my own. If you think I might be the boy for you, please let FM know. Lots of love! - Coby

UPDATED BIO 2/23/2009: Coby is 3 y/o and weighs a healthy 14#.

Coby's Foster Mom here......this is just a quick note to let everyone know that Coby is ready for his FURever home! Coby had his final X-Ray last week. While the vet said that Coby did have some arthritis in his hip, he said that it was to be expected after such a serious accident. He limps very occasionally (sometimes, when he runs, he picks up his rear left leg), but he walks on all four legs the majority of the time. He is able to jump and run and play (mainly fetch) just like everypuppy else. Coby is a doll. He would do well as an only dog or with 1-2 other friendly, submissive dogs of similar size. Please help give Coby a new "leash" on life and consider adopting him! Isn't he cute in his new shirt that Lena's new mom (Lena was recently adopted from UYR) donated to him? It says "Handsome Little Devil." How true!

UPDATED BIO 1/8/09: Hi - Coby here! Foster Mom thought it would be a good idea to update everyone on how I'm doing so that maybe my new FURever mom or dad will find me here. Soooooooo... here's what FM has learned about me: I'm friendly. I love to play with balls/toys/etc. (actually, I try to eat those squeaky toys so FM says you have to be careful with them around me). I don't eat furniture though! I am housetrained and go outside (I need reminding whem I'm in a new environment though). I like kids and other dogs but there's something important. I like dogs and everything........ but what I really like is my person. If I'm with my person and another dog tries to steal my person, I get upset. FM has been trying to teach me that this behavior is not acceptable. In the meantime, she thinks I would do best as an only dog or to a person who had only one dog... a friendly, submissive one. I'd also get along well with a kid 12 y/o and over. OK I'm ready for you to adopt me now :)

UPDATED BIO 12/20/2008: Hi there! It's Coby! Boy-oh-boy am I feeling better. I'm a 3 year old 12.5 lb little boy (FM says I would be perfect at 13 lbs since I'm still a little skinny). I got fixed by the Dogtor 2 weeks ago because I was hit by a car. My pelvis was fractured in lotsa places. FM says that despite by size (yes, I am a little bigger than many yorkies) I'll be adopted quickly because I am a sweetie pie! Seriously, she LOVES me! She tells me all the time what a good boy I am. I am very friendly, love people, kids, and other dogs, and I am housebroken. I even bark when I need to go potty, and I haven't had a single accident in the house! I only do my business outside. Aren't I smart??? I am feeling better, but FM has to keep this cone thingy on me so I don't pull out my staples (I've done that 3 times already!!!). FM says it's this fighting spirit that probably kept me alove in the shelter with a fractured pelvis for 8 days before being rescued.

I have to be confined in a small playpen for almost 2 months so my hip can heal properly. It's hard for me (and harder for FM!) but she's giving me sleepy pills to try and keep me relaxed. FM can tell I love toys and love the outdoors. I would LOVE a home with another dog of similar age/size to play with and maybe a kid or two. A backyard would be pawsome too! I used to cry for a few minutes when FM left the house, but she says I've calmed down and now I just go lay down on my special bed.

Well, if you liked reading about me and think I might be the guy for you, let FM know and fill out an application. The name's Coby. C-O-B-Y.

UPDATED BIO 12/07/08: MEET COBY! He's a very sweet 3 y/o 10# yorkie boy who is being fostered in Miami, FL. Coby had his surgery to repair his hip joint on Monday. His pelvis was fractured in multiple places and his hip joint was badly dislocated. The surgeon offered two surgeries to UYR; both would eliminate his pain, but the more expensive option (by a few hundred dollars) would give him back his mobility so he'd be able to live out his life as if nothing ever happened to him. We opted for the more expensive one, which means we would be forever grateful if you'd consider donating (even a few dollars helps!!!) to help defray the cost of his surgery. We at UYR never want to come to a point where we have to turn down dogs with these severe fractures because we don't have the money to do so.

Oh, and Coby wanted to let everyone know that his muzzle was badly matted when he was brought into the shelter. They shaved it down, but you can tell by his gorgeous full coat that it is going to grow back beautifully! Coby is a gentle soul who loves people, dogs, and kids. He is curious about cats, but hasn't shown any aggression towards them. He does have some separation anxiety and cries when he can't be near "his person". He is a doll and a pleasure to take care of.

ORIGINAL BIO 12/1/2008: MEET COBY! I'm a very sweet 3 y/o 10# yorkie boy - I'm being fostered in Miami, FL. I've had a really rough week....here's how it's gone for me......last weekend I was hit by a car; I was taken to the animal shelter where I waited for my family to come and take me home......and make me feel better cuz I was in a whole lotta pain! 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 l-o-n-g days went by before the nice people at United Yorkie Rescue were allowed to pick me up - thank goodness! They whisked me off right away to their special rescue vet; when she took x-rays, she said I have a fractured pelvis and also need hip surgery. WHAT?! Does that mean I'm gonna finally get put back together again like I usta be? I'm super sweet, love people and other animals, and I especially love to give kisses. I'm feeling better with some medicine, and Foster Mom said that when I have my surgery, I'll be as good as new - whooppee! Please consider taking me home and making me your special little boy....I'll love you forever! Oh, and FM asked me to tell ya that my surgery will cost lots of moolah, so if you have it in your heart to donate some moolah to help the folks at UYR pay for it, I'd really appreciate it! So long for now.........
