Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ava is a 6.2 lb, 20-month-old Pomeranian who was surrendered to us by her owner who could not afford her much needed leg amputation. Ava lived the previous 13 months of her life in pain with a broken leg. We had Ava's leg amputated on July 27th.
Despite her medical issues, Ava is an absolute doll! She has a love for life and is always smiling and craves attention. Ava loves car rides and snuggles with her foster mom and 3 1/2 pound Chihuahua foster sister, as well as sitting on the couch and watching TV. After being with us for 2 months, Ava is finally showing her more playful side and can be found rolling around and giving play nibbles to her foster mom's hand. You can see videos of Ava and her progress by visiting our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/rufflifeanimalrescue
Now for Ava's medical issues...
Shortly after her leg was amputated, Ava was diagnosed with retinal degeneration in both eyes and a luxating lens in one eye. After her leg amputation, we noticed Ava was displaying neurological symptoms, so we were referred to a specialist. Ava was seen by Dr Fauber at CARE Charlotte Animal Referral & Emergency and has been cleared as her symptoms have resolved. We believe she had a minor stroke or had a blood clot. Ava is on incontinence medicine, Proin, which is not very expensive and one bottle lasts her about 4 months. We have seen improvement with Ava's urinating since being on the medication.
Ava's ideal forever home will have another small dog she can hang out with and will take her in to the vet every 6 months to monitor for any changes in her eyes (Ava may end up needing medications and as much as eye removal at some point in the future). If her new home has hardwood floors, it's ideal for Ava to had her paw pads trimmed every few weeks to help her grip/balance. We do not recommend big dogs or very young children with her having 3 legs, vision and therefore balance issues.
Current medical issues: Retinal degeneration in both eyes, luxating lens in right eye, urinary incontinence
We, along with her vet and specialists, strongly believe her initial leg break was due to being hit by a car which caused her other issues (eyes and urinary incontinence).
Ava's adoption fee is $250. Ava is spayed, heartworm negative, microchipped, fully vaccinated (Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella and Influenza), fecal tested, on monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention and recently had a dental cleaning.
