My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET LUKE! He is an adorable and active 10-1/2 year old 6.9 lb little fella. Luke is being fostered in Tallahassee, FL. Luke's adoption fee is $150.

UPDATED BIO 02/10/2018: Luke has now been in his foster home for four months and is doing really well. He is a very active, alert, calm and sweet little yorkie-poo.

Luke loves playing with his squeaky toys and has now gotten the hang of returning and bringing to the “thrower” in the family and knows the command “drop it”. He is a very smart little boy. He still enjoys the sunshine in the puppy play-yard and watching the many squirrels, birds and lizards in the forest surrounding his foster home.

Luke has had sensitive skin issues all his life; he had a vet visit a week ago and unfortunately had both a bacterial and fungal infection from continuously scratching his skin. He received a monthly Cytopoint injection for the itching and continues to take a daily medication to help with this as well. We changed his shampoo for the 3rd time and he also gets medicated baths 2-3x a week to keep the itching under control. We are really hopeful that the injection, along with a new medicated shampoo and RX food will lessen Luke’s itchiness. His RX food is about the same price as any high-quality dog food and is formulated specifically for dogs with probable food and skin sensitivities.

Luke’s foster mom recently collected a sample of his hair and saliva specimens and sent them to a company that specializes in a non-invasive energetic analysis which seeks to identify and diminish non-harmonic energetic factors that may be contributing to his allergy type symptoms. Stay tuned to read future updates on Luke’s test results and what changes may be made in his diet and/or food.

Please don’t turn away from Luke because of his severe skin allergies and age. You will not find a more loving, sweet and dedicated companion dog. Luke needs a special family that understands that he may likely need either an RX or Limited Ingredient Diet/shampoo/medication and/or supplements for the rest of his life. His forever family must be able to afford this potential additional expense.

NOTE: Due to Luke’s small size and his past history with small children in his first home, he cannot be placed in a home with children under the age of 14.

UPDATED BIO 01/03/2018: Luke continues to thrive in his foster home where he has been for the past three months. He is a very active, alert, calm and sweet little yorkie-poo.

He continues to enjoy playing with squeaky toys and is slowly getting the hang of returning them when thrown. He still enjoys being in the puppy play-yard and lounging in the sunshine while keeping an eye on the many squirrels in the surrounding forest. But if a frog or lizard comes into view, his attention turns to them, lol!

Luke has always been a sensitive little guy who prefers soft talking by his humans instead of loud talking. He rolls over for belly rubs anytime he is approached – so sweet and so trusting! He greets anyone who comes into his foster home and will get up on his hind legs and asks everyone to pick him up. He is definitely not an alpha dog, but is sweet as sugar and has a ton of love to give to his human(s).

Luke sleeps all night long in his little bed on the floor in his foster parent’s bedroom. His perfect home would be one with at least one stay-at-home parent so that he could give them lots of attention and affection during the day. Luke gets along with other dogs really well although he much prefers human companionship, but another dog in the home close to his size and age would be okay with Luke.

Luke has always had sensitive skin issues and he is currently taking a medication (approximate cost $30/month) to help with his itchiness. He also gets medicated baths 1-2x a week to keep the itching under control. His new medication, along with a new medicated shampoo and RX food seem to have really lessened Luke’s itchiness. His RX food is about the same price as any high-quality dog food and is formulated specifically for dogs with possible food and skin sensitivities. Luke has lots and lots of love to give to a forever family. Please don’t turn away from Luke because of his allergies and age. You will not find a more loving, sweet and dedicated companion dog.

NOTE: Due to Luke’s small size and his past history with small children in his first home, he cannot be placed in a home with children under the age of 14.
UPDATED BIO 12/04/2017: Luke is doing just great in his foster home where he has been living for the past two months. He continues to be a very alert, active, calm and sweet little yorkie-poo boy.

Luke has decided that he loves playing with squeaky toys and will fetch and “almost” return them – but he is regaining the hang of it and will soon bring the toy all the way back. And drop it. Luke loves going outside in the puppy play-yard and is interested in the many squirrels that are always around and about – but he doesn’t bark at them. He is very interested in what they are doing and will watch them for a long time if permitted. Same with the lizards and frogs that abound in the forest – they totally interest and enthrall him.

UPDATED BIO 11/06/2017: Luke continues to be a very active, but calm and cute little yorkie-poo boy. Luke is back in UYR after his adoptive dad recently passed away.
Luke is a very smart little boy – he is almost 100% housetrained and also loves going outside in the fenced-in yard. He enjoys looking at all the squirrels in the forest trees and from time-to-time will be enthralled by either a lizard or a frog. He is not as happy outside at night-time since there are some night sounds that he is unaccustomed to, such as frogs croaking and alligators growling and rumbling in the lake. But he is getting used to hearing them since he’s been in his foster home for about 5 weeks now, and is now very curious about the sounds.

His perfect home would be one with at least one stay-at-home parent so that he could give them lots of attention and affection during the day. Luke has always had sensitive skin issues and he is currently taking a medication (approximate cost $25 monthly) to help with his itchiness. He also needs medicated baths 2-3x a week to keep the itching under control. He enjoys the cooling comfort of Tea Tree Oil or Aloe on his itchies when they pop up. Luke has lots and lots of love to give to a forever family. Could that be your’s?

UPDATED BIO 10/05/017: Luke is an active but very calm and cute little yorkie boy. Luke was adopted from UYR 5 years ago, but sadly Luke’s adoptive dad recently passed away and this little munchkin came back into UYR.
Since Luke has been in his foster home, he has let his foster mom know that he is a smart boy! Even though Luke had a history of problems with house-training, he appears to be totally house-trained, and will even let foster mom know when he needs to go out by coming to her and patting her on the leg. Wow!
He is a sensitive little guy who likes to hear inside voices from his people instead of loud talking. He rolls over for belly rubs anytime he is approached – so sweet! Luke is happily sleeping all night long in his little bed and is happy and content. Luke would love having one stay-at-home parent so that he could give them lots of attention and affection during the day.
Luke has always had sensitive skin issues and he is currently taking a medication to help with his itchiness. He will see the vet soon to see if there is a different protocol that may be better for him. Luke has lots and lots of love to give to a forever family. Could that be your’s?

INITIAL BIO 09/30/2017: Luke is an active but very calm and cute little yorkie boy. Luke was adopted from UYR 5 years ago, but sadly Luke’s adoptive dad recently passed away and this little munchkin came back into UYR. He appears to be happy in his foster home and is very curious about the other dogs and gets along well with them.
Luke is an active little boy who can easily jump onto the sofa and chairs and will happily sleep on a little throw or blankie – as long as he is near his person. Luke’s former adopter gave Luke a ton of attention and he especially loves belly rubs. Luke sleeps soundly during the night, and although he slept in bed with his dad, Luke is fine sleeping in the same room with his person. He gives his person loads of attention and is a very easy little boy to care for.
Luke’s perfect home would be one where he is the only dog, or one in which there may be another adult or senior dog for companionship, although Luke isn’t really into playing with another dog at this point in his life. He more enjoys interaction and attention from his human family. His house-training needs some improvement, but his foster mom will be working with him on that. Luke would love having one stay-at-home parent so that he could give them lots of attention and affection during the day.
Luke just came into rescue today, so stay tuned for more updates on this little nugget.
NOTE: Due to Luke’s small size, he cannot be placed in a home with children under the age of 14.
