My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nancy is a seven year old 8lb Maltese from Barrow County Animal Control. When we found her she was severely matted, covered in fleas, and her fur was almost brown from the dirt. Our groomer Alison worked her magic and brought out the beautiful little Maltese from the mess. She was owner surrendered after seven years because she was "nippy with visitors." We have yet to see this even though she is a little shy with new people.

Although Nancy is seven years old, she is a spry little thing. When she gets excited she loves to talk to you and bounce around. After the initial excitement she prefers to be a little lap dog and spends most of the day napping. She isn't much of a player, but will occasionally get excited about a toy or dance around with your hand. Nancy is shy at first but gets VERY attached to her person. It only took her a few days to bond with her foster mom and now she follows her around everywhere! She is house trained and crate trained, but does sometimes "piddle" when she gets nervous. We've been working on her general obedience but since she is so small and shy it's hard to teach her much more than how to sit.

Nancy currently lives with dogs and cats, so she will do well in a home with either. One of her foster siblings is a puppy and she isn't very fond of him, so calmer dogs would be better. She would also be very happy being the only pet so she gets all of your attention to herself :) Since she has the potential to be "nippy" we would suggest no young children in her home that may frighten her, but older children are okay.

If you're looking for a little dog that doesn't need much exercise and wants to spend all of her time with you at home, Nancy is the one for you.
