My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Reilly" is a beautiful, approx 3-yo spayed female GSD who is very affectionate and people-oriented. She becomes extremely attached to her caretakers and would likely make a great service dog. She is quite accepting of strangers, and licked my hand when I reached inside her caretaker's car to pet her (generally not a good idea) the first time I met her. Reilly is wonderful with children of all ages.

Reilly is fine w/ other dogs, but really is a "people dog." Here at GSRSV's rescue ranch, she was initially very nervous around the many dogs I keep here, so I kept her in a separate yard with a male GSD. However, she is now quite acclimated and prefers to be in the house so she can be near me. Riley would do best with at least one other dog as she has exhibited separation anxiety in the past when left all by herself in a new home--though that separation anxiety eventually went away completely.

Reilly reportedly tries to chase cats when out on walks, so I will only consider homes without cats for her.

Reilly is great about "holding it" when kept inside, and will do so for hours. However, she is prone to counter surfing and garbage rummaging (again, only when left alone).

Reilly sits promptly on command and is very attentive to hand signals and vocalization. She walks well on leash and has good off-leash recall.

A young man named Brandon found Reilly and Chip (the Chihuahua in the picture with Reilly) roaming the streets in Stockton late January while driving home to Sacramento. He tried to find the owners of the dogs, and a person told him that the two dogs were always escaping from their owners' yard and running loose. Brandon left a note on the owners' door, and when they called him they basically told him they had no way to contain the dogs (their fence was in terrible shape) and it would be OK for him to keep the dogs. Brandon already had three dogs but didn't want to take them to a shelter. So, he contacted GSRSV for assistance.

A family in Stockton adopted Reilly on March 6. Though they grew very attached to her, their work schedules changed in October where nobody was home for approx 10 hrs/day. Knowing that Reilly wouldn't do well being left alone so long and so often, they returned her to GSRSV on Oct 9.

Riley's adoption fee is $260.
