Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Interested in adoption? The first step is an application at www.paddyspaws.blogspot.com. Please do not apply if pets in the home are not up to date per our website requirements or are not altered. Wisconsin applications are priority, but Illinois applications will be considered if no small children (under 8) are present in the home, the home is owned, and excellent vet reference can be provided. We cannot process applications from other states.
Rex is currently living in a foster home in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Rex is a 12 month old yellow lab mix who is a special needs adoption. He currently weighs around 40 pounds. Due to a birth defect, he doesn't have use of his front legs, but that doesn't dim his bundle of sweetness and happy tail wags! He is incredibly independent with two functioning back legs and he even has his own set of wheels (for outside use) that he is learning to use! Rex is dog social, enjoys belly rubs and has full roam of his foster home when they are away at work! The perfect adoptive home would be a one-story home (minimal stairs) with more than 50% carpeting. Tile, laminent or wood floors are more difficult for him to stand/walk on his hind legs. Carpeted floors are easier for his independent mobility and more comfortable on his elbows/shoulders as he moves around.. A zero degree exit door would be beneficial too (or just one step) so that going out to go potty makes it easier for him (a deck with multiple up/down stairs would make it more difficult).
Rex would love another dog companion in his home to play with. Just recently Rex learned how to swim with the assistance of a life jacket! Rex is truly a sweetheart and loves everyone he meets. He has the spirit and activity level of the lab breed and he doesn't let his handicap stop him from enjoying life!
Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and once approved, a meet and greet with the dog.
Please note that preference is given to adopters in Wisconsin, but adoptions in Illinois will be considered.
Adoption fee is $250.
