My story

Little C.J. belonged to a family since he was a puppy. He lived outside, most of the time, on a chain, for 5 years.  At times he was allowed to run loose and play with several other dogs that also lived outside. One day he was part of a group that killed the owners’ 10 chickens. Not sure that C. J. actually attacked any chickens but because he was with the other bigger dogs, he was 'guilty by association'. The man told his wife that all the dogs would be shot if she did not get rid of them. In 2017, the lady asked Emmy’s Hope Rescue to find C.J. a new home.

C.J. is a sweet, sweet little dog but he is extremely shy, especially when he first meets new people. We have been working on his socialization skills with unfamiliar humans. C.J. is fine around both dogs and cats. He has experienced so many new things since he came to Emmy's Hope that have helped him not be so fearful of everything. We recommend that C.J. be placed with a quiet family that will have the time and patience to continue helping him build his confidence and trust.

In October  2019,  C.J. was diagnosed with a moderate heart murmur. He does not need medication at this time and does not have any activity restrictions.

Estimated birth date:  January 2012
Approximate weight:  9 lbs.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

1. Application An adoption application is required, providing information about your family, as well as past and current pets. 2. Vet check You give us permission to contact your veterinarian regarding current and/or past pets. You must have a good vet history, showing that you are a responsible pet owner. 3. Home visit A home visit will be scheduled. • To adopt a dog, you must have a fenced area. We will check it to make sure there are no escape routes. We will not leave a dog with you unless problem areas are fixed. • To adopt a cat, the home environment must be safe for the cat. There needs to be a place where the cat can be isolated for several days until the new cat & current pets can get used to each other. 4. Trial run There will be a minimum of a one week trial at your home, to make sure that the pet you have chosen is a good match with your family. If the pet does not work out, for whatever reason, we will take the pet back. 5. Adoption finalization When we all agree that the pet is a good match with your family, the adoption can be finalized. An adoption contract is signed. You must promise to be a responsible and loving pet owner for the entire life of your new pet. 6. Adoption fees • Dogs - $150 • Cats - $100 This fee helps defray the cost of vetting but by no means covers all the money already spent on your new pet. All rescues are completely vetted: all shots up-to-date, spayed/neutered and parasite free. (Dogs) are micro-chipped, heartworm negative and currently taking a heart worm preventative. (Cats) are tested and negative for FIV and FELV. Other health issues may also have been treated and you will get a history of anything that’s been done.
