Gaby/Maya has come back to SHRF through no fault of her own or her former adopter. She was just too much for her 10 year old beta Husky brother (a former SHRF Husky), whom she would bully and pick on. He did not handle her high energy level well in addition to her occasional nips at him and would become reactive to it.
She is a bundle of energy and a very happy, loving Husky with a big personality. She likes to romp and play, but then is happy to settle down and snooze. She loves playing with and retrieving her balls in the house, but outside prefers exploring other things. Her favorite toy is a squeaky ball that she apparently stole from somewhere. Gaby/Maya can be toy aggressive with other dogs and giver her snarly face to get them to back away from what she feels is hers. This behavior should be watched and corrected, particularly if she visits the dog park if other dog owners are throwing balls.
Gaby/Maya has a strong prey instinct, so hang tight if there are rabbits or squirrels within sight. Gaby/Maya needs regular exercise, as Huskies normally do, and loves being outdoors. On walks, she likes to pick up small sticks or pieces of wood or bark to take home. If something gets her excited on a walk she has been known to nip any other four-legged companion who is walking next to her. Other times she acts like a cat and will sit on the back of the sofa with her chin on the windowsill watching the world go by.
She does well when left alone for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours) but is very happy to see her humans when they arrive. Her adopter should be cautious of things like tissues, paper towels, or pens on the floor or within her reach. Inevitably those things, if she finds them, will be found chewed up. She is not a counter surfer and has very good house manners where she can be left uncrated even though she is crate trained. Though she does not need to be crated Gaby/Maya considers the crate as her space and it is also a good place for her to settle down if she gets too rambunctious. If you tell her to "go lie down" she heads straight to her crate and curls up on her bed.
Gaby/Maya knows many commands such as "sit", "shake", "wait", "lie down", and has been training to heel, although she hasn't quite mastered that yet, but she learns quickly. She also seems to grasp the concept of "five minutes" in that she has to wait a while for whatever it is she wants. Not to worry if you forget, she will remind you. She has a sensitive stomach so it is important to keep her food consistent.
This beautiful girl is healthy, Heartworm negative, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped. Gaby/Maya is a fun loving girl but also sweet as can be.
