My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

For a French Bulldog, Otis has plenty of energy. Sure, he enjoys napping throughout the day but he requires more attention than we can give him at the moment. We originally got him as a friend/playmate for our older Frenchie, Winston. He just turned 3yrs old, and we got him from the same breeder (same bloodline as Winston). They are both fine together, but our older guy pretty much tolerates Otis. He is a purebred Frenchie (not sure why the site is showing him as a 'mix'. We're looking for a good, caring home to place Otis. He certainly loves attention and will follow you around the house a bit... especially to the kitchen for cheese! And he's fine snuggling up with you on the sofa to watch shows, or in bed in the mornings (after he pees, eats and poops of course).

He is house trained well, and sleeps at night in his bed on the floor of our bedroom. He has found some things to chew on while we're out, but not furniture, shoes or wires. Unfortunately, he did go through a remote and a leather watch band!

He's playful with other dogs but his social skills need a lot of work. Otis has an aggressive bark which makes some other dogs defensive, but he's always the submissive one and just wants to play and run around. We had a trainer work with him briefly and saw noted improvement so i'm certain he'd pick it up if someone could stick with it.

His new home...
It's probably best that Otis go to a home without other pets, but i'd be curious how he'd be. I suspect he'd adjust after some time, but the current pet may have some territorial issues with a new guy in the house. It's also preferable if the home he goes to will be able to put in some training time with him (he has the basics down really well, it's more about the out-and-about stuff) and ideally some space to run around in. He is an anxious/excited rider if going on road trips but listens fairly well to lay down and stay while in the car... in his bed or on blankets. That said we just took them both on a long road trip from San Jose to Palm Springs for the Thanksgiving holiday and he wasn't too bad laying with Winston and one of us in the back seat. Not ideal, but it worked!

Kids...
We're not sure how he'd be in a house with kids. He gets overly excited when we come across kids outside. Like many dogs, Otis just wants to jump on and lick the kids faces and hands. High pitched noises (like kids voices) tend to get him overly excited. That's not to say he wouldn't be ok with a new born or younger kid once he got comfortable with them. My experience with the breed tells me they tend to love snuggling up with kids and even become protective of them over time.

Diet, Health, & Grooming...
We've had him on a grain-free diet (Blue Buffalo Freedom, Small Breed) since he was a puppy. He's a healthy French Bulldog and has all the necessary shots. We groom our dogs ourselves (wash, nails, coat, eyes and ears) so he's good with that stuff... not sure how he'd be at a place that has those services. We have him on a fairly good routine and can share those details with his next mom or dad.

Overall, this is not an easy decision and i'm sure we will miss him. It's just unfortunate that we don't have the type of household we think he needs. Even though Otis may take some work, it will be a lucky family who gets to adopt him to start making new memories!
