Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Rocky" is a handsome, approx 80-lb, 7-yo black/red, neutered male GSD who is very friendly, confident and easy-going. Rocky is very accepting of strangers and has no issues with visitors inside the house. He is good with children, having grown up with a family with three kids, the youngest being 4 yrs old when he was brought home. However, Rocky is uncomfortable being hugged (he'll growl when embraced), so we feel it would be best to place Rocky in a home with children no younger than 10.
Rocky is great with other dogs--confident but not at all dominant. (See elsewhere on this page for a video of Rocky with a few other dogs at GSRSV's rescue ranch.) When two of GSRSV's dogs started to harass Rocky, he simply moved away from them.
Rocky is also very good with cats. Two years ago, Rocky lived with two kittens for about a year and did well with them. There are five cats in his present home, and one of the bolder cats has made friends with Rocky and will lay down right next to him.
Rocky is well-trained and good in the house. He plays with his designated couch pillow-toys, but leaves other pillows alone! He walks well on leash--he wants to lead, but does not pull hard. He is also not reactive towards other dogs on walks. Rocky has very good recall off-leash.
Rocky loves to swim, go on hikes & walks, and go for car rides. He'd be a great dog for an outdoor-oriented family or individual. He's very athletic and is in great shape.
Rocky's former owner adopted him when he was one yr old. Recently, he became unable to keep Rocky any longer so his parents took Rocky in. Though they know Rocky well and trust him, they have five cats and two little dogs and are nervous having Rocky around so many small critters. So, they sought GSRSV's assistance in seeking a permanent home for him.
GSRSV has evaluated Rocky and is placing him as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Rocky through its adoption program while his caretakers continue to care for him.
Rocky is located in Roseville. His adoption fee is $160.
