My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

(to see more videos and pictures, follow Boomer on Instagram at Catahoula Boomer)
Boomer is a 7 year old Catahoula/German Shepherd mix. He was brought up here from Louisiana as a puppy by a friend of mine. Due to social and work circumstances, she was not able to provide for him and we became his foster parents. Due to him being an apartment dog, we spent a lot of time training him through his seperation anxiety and dog/people association. We found out he has a love for the dog park, hiking the numerous mountain trails of WA, being off leash around dogs/people, and cuddles with blankets and pillows. We are looking for a home that can provide way more than we can. The perfect family for Boomer would be a family with a love for the outdoors, enough time daily to spend with him, no cats (dogs are fine), children that are "older," and a love for this breed. He is not a dog with any special medical needs, but he is a dog that craves attention and wants to be worked.
Typically fosters or shelters will wait to get to the small details, but I'd like for you potentially adopters to know Boomer to the fullest:
Currently my partner and I live in a communal house in Issaquah with 3 other people. The house sits on 3 acres with hiking trails around it as well as Squak, Cougar, and Tiger mountain nearby. Boomer has not known anything but apartment living which was not necessarily great for him. He is a guard dog of course which can be hard for some apartment complexes to take in. Being in an open area for him to be off leash and enjoy some freedom has truly helped with his anxiety and pent up energy. The only thing we are running in to is that we have cats currently in our home that he can not get along with. That is something we have tried to train him on, but we are not able to get past his breed vs. cats.
Currently Boomer is home by himself for about 7 hours a day. This is a lot but both my partner and I work. This means that any social events that we have revolve around him quite greatly. He is with us for most car rides and hiking adventures. He's been great with having friends over, but we do not do parties or anything with him as it makes him extremely anxious.
Boomer is very much a dog that does not want to be left alone, most of that due to his past. He will cuddle with you and snuggle up close, but he won't sleep long on the bed with you. As much as he craves attention, he will also tell you when he wants some alone time.
We have provided basic training for him, meaning he knows how to behave very well and listen to commands (He can be a very stubborn dog though). Commands such as: sit, stay, wait, down, off, keep off, leave it, right here (for heel), ninja crawl, and our favorite, the Boomer roll. We have worked on leash walking, but he has a very hard time around other dogs while he is on leash. His previous owner did not teach him to not have leash aggression, which equates to him barking and pulling when he sees another dog on or off leash. This is primarily why we take him to dog parks or off leash trails so he can be himself or be free around other dogs. He still has not learned to not bark at the doorbell or when people knock. He has quite the bark as well. For an older dog, he still has some things to learn, but he acts like a puppy all the same. All of this of course you would have to see in person and get to know him truly. An ad does not do this wonderful dog justice.
I say all of this in the hopes that whomever takes Boomer can provide everything he needs. He is in need of lots of love, lots of blankets, and lots of play time :)
