My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Young Lab/ Italian Greyhound mix available for adoption

This beautifully gentle soul is Sawyer. He is a handsome Lab/ Italian greyhound mix. He has had a rough start in life and shows the signs neglect and abuse. Even so, he is gentle and sweet, seeks human affection and praise, but is so timid and shy. He will need a gentle patient owner willing to gain his trust and move slowly with him. Once his loyalty is gained the affection and love flows freely. It never ceases to amaze me that no matter what these precious souls have endured they still desire to bond and be in relationship with other humans. Dogs really are the best at second chances!

He has been extremely undersocialized and not experienced life in the outside world. He was locked away for many hours a day in a very small crate. It was a cat size, travel crate that he was unable to stand up in, or turn around to make himself comfortable. He has never been on a leash before coming into rescue and not walked on many ground surfaces- he doesn’t understand the ins and outs of a regular household.  I am not sure what all he has experienced in his young life but he will hit the ground an take cover at the sound of a door closing, a quick movement makes him shake and duck his head, and given the chance he will run and hide in his crate at every opportunity- seeking the safety and security he feels inside it.

All of that is heart breaking...BUT here is the good news... all of that life of fear and struggle is behind him. He is in rescue now! He is safe and sound and being shown what a wonderful life a dog can live. He is being healed by the power of the pack and interacting with other dogs. His foster mom is a dog behaviorist and knows just what he needs to gain the confidence to become an amazing family dog. He enjoys the company of other dogs and will follow them around to investigate the world around him. At this point families with very small children will not be considered until we get him over his fear of quick movements and loud noises. He has shown no signs of reactivity or aggression of any kind- just extreme fear, shut down and avoidance at all cost.

He will need a very special owner. And would benefit from the companionship of a confident dog sibling. He is about a year old and roughly 20lb. He desperately needs to gain some weight along with everything else, but we don’t anticipate him growing too much more. He would likely max out at 23-27lbs.  If you are interested in adopting this precious boy and offering him the safety and security he desperately needs contact amberreine@icloud.com or PM me directly for more information. He will not be placed on a First come first serve basis and adopting family MUST be willing to work with his dog behaviorist to learn what it will take to help him thrive. There will be an adoption fee.

If Sawyer pulls at your heart strings and he sounds like a gentle soul that you would have the time and willingness to learn how to help him heal and become part of your forever family please contact us. He is neutered and up to date with all of his shots. He will have a full vet check as well to make sure there are no unknow issues.

Again if you would like to contribute to the care and rehabilitation it takes to find these precious babies forever families you may donate directly to our vet fund at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital - just ask to donate to the “JENKINS FAMILY RESCUE FUND” here is the number (714) 972-0125‬ or PM me to Venmo or PayPal your donation directly. Thanks in advance! We can’t do it with out the generosity of the community.
