My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for a little roly poly to keep you warm this winter? Actually, who are we kidding, our Gabe is a year round snuggling extraordinaire. If given the chance, our 6 year old boy would happily spend his days sitting in his person's lap or laying upside down in their arms. While Gabe's foster families have been more than willing to indulge him with endless cuddling, he wasn't always so cherished. The first few years of his life, he was virtually invisible -- gated in the corner of the kitchen and ignored with no human attention or social interaction. So much so that he automatically relegated himself to the corner for weeks when first coming into rescue. After quite some time with us, Gabe has learned how to be a loved and spoiled member of a family and is now a smiley (literally) happy boy and bonds quickly and strongly to his person. At 11lbs, our little guy has found his inner Chihuahua confidence, and especially given his lack of socialization early on in life and his strong loyalty to his person, proven that he can be a bit protective of his space with other dogs and new people. Any canine sibling in his forever home will need to be laid back, patient and non-reactive, and cats aren't a great fit since a good game of chase is one of Gabe's favorite pastimes. Our sweet boy would love a low-key home (no kids under 12 please) with a family who is patient and understanding of his endearing quirks and willing to let him sleep under the covers even. Those that aren't looking for a cuddly, velcro dog need not apply. Gabe is also a big fan of going for walks and hunting and chasing those pesky squirrels around the yard. Mr. snuggler-extraordinaire has excelled at house breaking (if you know male Chihuahuas, you know how impressive that is!) and he is neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. Take another look at that smile. If that doesn't make you want to apply at www.omdrescue.org, we don't know what will.
